With the winter season making its presence fully felt, correct driving methods in the snow are something every driver should fully grasp.
According to Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) spokesperson Jason Ballantyn, attitude plays a crucial role in winter driving. The CAA rep speaks from professional as well as personal experience from his daily drives from Barrie to his CAA South Central Ontario office in Thornhill.
One of the most common mistakes that drivers make? He says it’s having a summer driving mindset in the snow. He further states that giving yourself extra time when driving through the cold is imperative.
Here are some tips that Ballantyn encourages drivers to employ:
- Check on your cold weather rated windshield regularly and see it to that the fluid is full. It also pays to keep an extra batch stashed in the trunk.
- Make it a habit to check on tire pressure every week.
- Get the right type of tires. Winter tires are highly recommended by the folks from the CAA.
- The proper traction can save you from being stuck in the snow-covered road or a ditch.
Dozens of accidents happen during the winter season. The task of keeping yourself and other drivers safe falls upon your shoulders. Be careful and act smart.
