About Brampton Ontario

Nicknamed as the “Flowertown of Canada, Bramtpon has a long history of growing beautiful flowers – a reputation that’s well earned. For many years, hundreds of acres of Brampton land contained numerous greenhouses filled with rare orchids, famous roses, and other high quality flowers.

In the early 1800’s Brampton was much different, with areas surrounded by vast wilderness untouched and unexplored by settlers. Things soon began to change, as one British family saw great potential in the region.

Settlement officially began in 1843, as Mr. John Elliott, a Primitive Methodist haling from Brampton, Cumbria, England arrived with his family in the largely untouched region. Ten years later, Brampton was transformed into a small village, ushering in other settlers to follow Elliott’s suit.

One of the key factors that make the city a tourist haven is large number of lakes and rivers. The Credit and the West Humber Rivers ply the Brampton area, the same sight that drew in settlers back in the day. Tourists and visitors are bound to enjoy the many lakes in Brampton – take your pick from Heart Lake, Professor’s Lake, and Loafer’s Lake.

Brampton is a city that always seems to play host to some happening, event, festival, party, concert – you name it, chances are, Brampton’s already done it. Each month brings something new to this colorful city, a delight for tourists and newcomers alike.
