The Brampton Library recently issued a challenge to kids from the city, and for 14-year-old Shaurya Kashyap, rising to a challenge has never been more fun.

The dare? For kids in Brampton to collectively read 1 million pages of books, comics, manga, and even online journals and magazines before the 29th of August. Shaurya is pitching in very nicely, having read over 75,000 pages already.

Shaurya is a big fan of the fantasy genre, and when she signed up for the challenge, she first though that each contestant had to read 1 million pages on their own. Yet despite what may seem like a daunting task to the rest of us, she obviously had no problem with the challenge. In fact, she’s planning on reaching the million-page goal herself anyway.

Because of her love for books and reading, Shaurya, who is a Grade 9 Student at school, finds it very easy to write essays and stories. Her hobby also allows her to express herself more eloquently.

The reading contest, titled Read and Win, is open to teenagers ages 13 to 19 years old, who’ll be given weekly prizes to motivate them to read more.

With the number of kids like Shaurya who are self-confessed bookworms, it’s safe to say that they’ll reach the million-page goal in no time.
