Bike Parade Makes Return for Canada Day in Smiths Falls

In the spirit of Canada Day, one tradition in Smiths Falls is making a comeback next Thursday.

As a way of celebrating the nation’s 143rd anniversary, children and the young at heart in Smiths Falls are encouraged to decorate and style their wagons, bicycles, tricycles, and other non-motor vehicles to signify their love for Canada. And as with all fun activities, this one comes with prizes, which will be given to the most creative vehicles.

Registration for the contest starts at 10 in the morning on Canada Day, with the judging process beginning an hour later. The colorful vehicles will be showcased front and center at the annual Canada Parade, which kicks off at exactly 11 in the morning.

In 2009, at least 45 children and their ‘pimped out’ vehicles paraded the town in front of cheering residents, tourists, and of course, proud parents. Jackie Staples, one of the event’s organizers, expects maybe even more kids to join in on the fun.

She gives a tip to those interested in joining: show up early so that the judges have more time to go over their entry.

Canada Day in Smiths Falls is all about good food, good music, games, entertainment, and of course, a lot of fun. Don’t miss out on the festivities.
