Mainly celebrated for kids, the event opened on the 16th of April and went on until the 21st. Kids had fun with all sorts of games and activities that were prepared for them. A lot of prizes also hyped the kids and the parents definitely had fun watching their kids enjoy the celebration. The event was open to the public at around 10 in the morning, with closing ceremonies commencing at around 5 in the afternoon. Everyone was welcome and invited to find all the eggs that the Easter bunnies have hidden all over the house. Once they find one, they immediately receive a prize.

The highlight of the whole event, however, was the amazing exhibit named “A Kid at Heart” which featured hundreds of tin toys that dated back from the 1930s to the 1950s. Mr. Randy McDonald owns the collection and he generously displayed them for everyone to see. Everyone was delighted to see how tin toys looked like decades ago. A collection of old toy cars and Hot Wheels were also displayed in one corner.

Mr. Randy McDonald also invited all the kids to bring their own toys and display them on an exhibit. There was definitely something for everyone at the event. Fun and games, activities, toys and even Easter egg hunts completed the whole celebration of Easter. Kids and parent had a great bonding time and would definitely be looking forward to next year’s event. This year was a grand celebration of Easter. Come and join us again next year for an even more fabulous Easter Bunny Hunt.

Each and every one of the attendees had a great time at the annual indoor games that was presented by the Smith Falls Gordon Pipe Band. With exciting activities and fun games being prepared, the audience definitely had a great time at the event. One whole day of family fun as the event blasted off from 8 in the morning straight through 4 in the afternoon. Children under 12 were admitted to the event for free while competitors and spectators above the age of 12 were asked to shell out only $5, which was actually a great deal for such an amazing and fun event that delighted both the young and old alike.

Sponsoring the event was the Smith Falls Gordon Pipe Band. The group was formed in the year 1996 under the supervision of the late Mel Rodgers and Bill Orr. They wear the Ancient Gordon tartan. The emblem of the band, which was displayed on their bass drum, incorporates the Stag’s Head with the Clan of Gordon Coat of Arms and the Waterfall logo from the gorgeous township of Smith Falls. Every spring season, the band hosts the annual indoors pipe, drum and band competition and has been very successful ever since. The band has also been a strong community organization that focuses on bringing fun to their audience.

Event winners were announced as soon as the competition concluded, and lucky winners declared as the Rob Roy Pipe band won first place. Spicing up the competition during the 6th Annual Spring Fling Indoor Games were local personalities of the area. Indeed, the event had a full blast as its keeps getting better year after year.

In the spirit of Canada Day, one tradition in Smiths Falls is making a comeback next Thursday.

As a way of celebrating the nation’s 143rd anniversary, children and the young at heart in Smiths Falls are encouraged to decorate and style their wagons, bicycles, tricycles, and other non-motor vehicles to signify their love for Canada. And as with all fun activities, this one comes with prizes, which will be given to the most creative vehicles.

Registration for the contest starts at 10 in the morning on Canada Day, with the judging process beginning an hour later. The colorful vehicles will be showcased front and center at the annual Canada Parade, which kicks off at exactly 11 in the morning.

In 2009, at least 45 children and their ‘pimped out’ vehicles paraded the town in front of cheering residents, tourists, and of course, proud parents. Jackie Staples, one of the event’s organizers, expects maybe even more kids to join in on the fun.

She gives a tip to those interested in joining: show up early so that the judges have more time to go over their entry.

Canada Day in Smiths Falls is all about good food, good music, games, entertainment, and of course, a lot of fun. Don’t miss out on the festivities.
