Winter Park Movie House Moves to New Location

Residents in Gananoque have a new entertainment complex they can check out, as a favorite movie-viewing destination in town moves to over to a newer, and more importantly, bigger facility.

Due to the town’s decision to demolish the building he’s been leasing space from for 10 years, Paul Peterson is closing Boulevard Cinema, which is located at the Gananoque waterfront, and will be moving to a new location at 345 Herbert Street.

However, it won’t be same the same movie house everyone remembers.

Boulevard Cinema will have a new name – HMG, which stands for hoagies, movies and games. They even have a new slogan, “We deliver fun.”

According to Peterson, his lease was running out anyway, so he didn’t really mind moving to a new spot. In fact, he says, it’s about time he and his son—who co-owns HGH—tried out something new.

Renovations are currently underway, and feedback from the theater’s loyal customers has been fantastic, Peterson said. The new facility is set to feature a big stage well suited for big events, stadium seats, and a new party room with a top-of-the-line sound system.

Indeed, the new facility looks like it’s guaranteed to “deliver fun”.

Boys and Girls Club of Gananoque Finally Opens

Boys and girls from age 4 to 12 years old can now have more reasons to smile after class because Gananoque’s Boys and Girls Club has finally opened its doors after being held up for months on end due to the H1N1 flu virus’ persistent presence in Gananoque. In fact, had it not been for this, children would have started enjoying the facility, which is located in the Linklater School’s Room 18 at Stone Street, since the 21st of September.

Luckily, now that the H1N1 shots have been mobilize all over Canada, the organizers and the general population, especially the parents of children, are better at least with spending more time out and about with the new club being one of the destinations to be after school because it opens from 3PM-6PM on Mondays till Fridays.

The Boys and Girls Club of Gananoque is made possible by everyone who have supported the Linklater School, our very own Town of Gananoque, and the United Way of Leeds and Greenville. Thanks to everyone behind these organizations (including all the locals of course being part of the town of Gananoque), children now have more activities to think of even after school is done on weekdays.

Gananoque Ontario Joins Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child officially started last October 23, 2009 and loving as we are, the residents of Gananoque Ontario and its surrounding areas in Kingston, Napanee and Westport are once again at the forefront of the activity.

Operation Christmas Child

Simply described as “Love in a Box”, Operation Christmas Child volunteers are now collecting thousands of shoeboxes in the Gananoque Ontario area filled with school supplies, small toys, hygiene items, clothes, ball caps, socks, sunglasses and other trinkets that children from lesser fortunate countries would benefit from. These countries include 15 nations throughout Central and South America.

Gail Shillington, regional coordinator of Operation Christmas Child, along with other volunteers is now calling on Gananoque residents to have their shoeboxes filled in support to Operation Christmas Child, which has been hand-delivering shoeboxes filled with gifts to more than 68 million children in 125 countries since 1993.

Making a difference

“These children have no hope and this brings some hope and shows that someone cares,” says Shillington who joined the Christian relief organization headed by Samaritan’s purse because she wanted to make a difference.

“Most of us never have the opportunity to do great things in a great way, but we all have opportunities to do small things in a great way,” she adds.

According to Shillington who had taken part in the delivery of the boxes in Nicaragua and Mexico, the smiles on the children’s faces and great appreciation from the parents are enough to motivate her and the other volunteers to keep on working for Operation Christmas Child every year.

It all started with 500 boxes, 5 volunteers and one church. Now, they have around 200 groups from churches, businesses, service clubs, families and 60 volunteers.

Collection dates

Everyone in Gananoque Ontario should expect Shillington and her volunteers to go around the area distributing the shoeboxes. Collection dates are from November 16-19, 2009 so mark your calendars to show you care.
