Bohemians in Brooklyn

A potent mix of cabaret, social history, very juicy gossip, glorious music and all parts fun. Step inside 7 Middagh Street in Brooklyn, NY, where, in the early 1940’s, an amazing collection of artists lived under the same roof. The poet W.H. Auden, the Southern writer Carson McCullers, the composer Benjamin Britten and the burlesque entertainer and aspiring writer Gypsy Rose Lee all lived and frolicked there, followed, soon after, by just about everyone else in pre-war Manhattan. With humour, tragedy and dollop of juicy gossip, Bohemians in Brooklyn brings you inside one of the most fascinating addresses in history.

Tickets: $35. Presented by Tom Allen and the Thousand Islands Playhouse.

If you have listened to CBC Radio 1 or CBC Music you will be familiar with the voice of Tom Allen, who currently hosts the weekday afternoon show, Shift. He is a musician and storyteller who fills his programs with interesting facts about the music, the composer and the forces that shaped them both.

Tom Allen: narration, trombone, voice
Lori Gemmell: harp, guitar, voice
Bryce Kulak: piano, voice
Patricia O’Callaghan: voice, percussion

25th Anniversary Seeley’s Bay Frost Fest

https://www.gananoque.ca/sites/gananoque.ca/files/Frost%20Fest%201.jpg

FrostFest is celebrating 25 years in 2019! Come join us on February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for a celebration of a good old-fashioned Canadian winter, complete with wagon rides, skating, snowman building, a chili cook-off, fireworks, and a comedy show, plus plenty of great food!

Our goal is to provide a full weekend of family-oriented fun and to raise funds to enhance community life in Seeley’s Bay and the surrounding areas. In the past 24 years, FrostFest has donated $71,900 to support local community programs and initiatives, and we’re hoping to make our 25th year the biggest one yet!

If you’re interested in helping to support FrostFest, you can take part by volunteering to assist with one of our big events – even an hour or two of your time would make a big difference! We’re also currently accepting item donations for Saturday’s Silent Auction, small prizes for the button draws, or financial support – any help you can provide will allow us to do more for the community. Drop off at the Post Office with Karen.
