Zachary Lucky is unapologetically old-school country, armed with a husky, baritone voice \u2013 He carries himself like a younger Richard Buckner or a heartier Doug Paisley and receives comparisons to songwriters such as Gordon Lightfoot and Kris Kristofferson. He sings of Canadian places and people as knowingly as he might Townes Van Zandt or the Rio Grande. It\u2019s a relatable show on many levels, and conjures universal feelings that have passed through our collective timelines. Already hailed as a master storyteller by outlets ranging from No Depression to The Globe and Mail! Lucky\u2019s \u201cEverywhere A Man Can Be\u201d is his most powerful statement to date.<\/p>\n

The road is no stranger to Canadian country singer Zachary Lucky<\/strong>. He\u2019s used to rolling through hundreds of tour dates a year, sleeping in the back of his car, and playing his heart out in every town he moves through. He\u2019s learned to trust the road, and to trust the gifts it brings. It\u2019s a lesson he learned first from his grandfather, famed Canadian western singer Smilin\u2019 Johnnie Lucky, who was known for relentlessly touring the Arctic regions of the country. In his youth, Zachary Lucky<\/strong> felt free on the road, driving from one town to the next and never staying long. \u201cI never felt the need to come home\u201d he says, \u201cbecause there was never anything waiting for me there.\u201d Ten years later, he\u2019s got a new outlook on his life and a family waiting for him at home in Ontario. The songs on his latest album Midwestern<\/em><\/strong>, grapple with fatherhood, the passage of time, and whether his daughters will grow up knowing the Canadian prairies he still loves.<\/p>\n

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Lucky finds himself in the company of other Saskatchewan artists like Colter Wall, Deep Dark Woods, and Kacy & Clayton. Why has this rugged Canadian province produced such great roots music? Lucky thinks some of it must come down to the prairie landscape and its people. \u201cThere\u2019s something about the Canadian Midwestern people,\u201d he says in explanation. \u201cThere\u2019s a strong work ethic, and a kindness to them that you don\u2019t find anywhere else. There\u2019s also something about being in the middle of nowhere, beneath that vast prairie sky, watching it come alive with colour as the sun dips below the horizon.\u201d<\/p>\n
