The event is not only a mere family activity but makes it a venue to spend a great way to help the youth and the parents to bond. It definitely is a great time for the family to come together and to do fun-filled activities that are not only fun but also physically and mentally stimulating. The event will be providing the vendors with several of the amenities like tables, chairs and of course, space. However, the event will not sponsor power to these vendors, so they should have their own generator in case they need it. All exhibitors should present an activity for children, which can also be done with the help of the parents to help promote spending quality time with the family.

The children and youth festival happens annually and is a great way to spend quality time with all the members of the family. Jazz and blues enthusiast and everyone else is warmly welcome to attend the annual event.

The first blues and jazz festival began in 2003. There was a small team of 5 volunteers who managed and organized a full-blown celebration over 3 days. An open concert which featured 2003 Juno Award winning headliner Jack DeKeyzer, and seven other talented blues and jazz musicians was done in Alexandra Park. The park had a beer garden, a farmers’ market and food and craft vendors. From the success of the first event, the festival started to grow and develop by the next year. In appreciation for the support and help of the generous town of Orangeville and the BIA as well as the sponsors, the event expanded the free concert in Alexandra Park to include Saturdays and Sundays. The support of the crew was so great that the team of 5 quickly grew to a group of 50 members.

With great food, amazing blues and jazz music, striking sights and friendly and welcoming people, this event will be the best music festival out there. Have fun with us as we celebrate three nights of great music at Downtown Orangeville. Be there and enjoy the 9th annual Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival.

Parents developed their child’s social skills at the Youth Event

Guests of all ages had so much fun at this year’s biggest kids’ program, the annual Youth Event. Those who have kids or relatives who are 10 years old or older had a lot of fun and excitement as they dropped by at this highly anticipated event. They definitely had fun with us. We prepared plenty of fun activities and games lined up for all the kids at the event. This year, we were not only promoting fun and games, but also great relationships among the youth, which helped develop their social skills and helped them make new friends. We had them socialize and have fun with many other kids who were present at the event.

All the parents were pleased since for only $5, they can have their child admitted at the Youth Event. On the 8th of April, their child definitely enjoyed his, or her, time with us and had fun with the others. We helped the children develop his or her social skills by helping them interact and relate with other children. There was a lot of activities in line which included games that require teamwork and communication, and even story sharing where the kids may relate to the stories and apply the moral lessons to their daily lives. The admission fee of $5 also included a slice of pizza and one drink for the snacks of the children.

There was a fun round skating from 4 in the afternoon until 5 in the afternoon and swimming activities from 7 until 8 in the evening as well as basketball games, jamming sessions, Wii games and so much more. The kids definitely had so much fun. This year’s event was held last April 8, 2011 from 2 in the afternoon onwards. The kids were at the Alder Street Recreation Centre and we took care of the rest at the Youth Event.

Child and Family Expert Holds Presentation about Effective Parenting in Orangeville

When you’re shopping for groceries with your child, what do you do when he, or she, screams for you to buy something like candy? Do you succumb to her wailing cries or do you stand up and “be the parent?”

According to renowned child and family therapist Kersty Franklin, choosing the former is an indication of reacting to a situation, instead of being proactive about it. Today’s generation of children expect to receive most of what they ask for because parents now give in to their whims, she says.

Back in the day, this problem was usually limited to children ages 8 and below, now it’s up to 18, she adds.

While you might expect Franklin to tell you to discipline your child more effectively, she actually offers smarter and more practical advice.

She points out that parents must teach their kids how to think and solve problems they run into. Parents need to provide expectations for certain behavior, something that’s different from simply imposing one’s will as a parent. Franklin says that parents and children need to understand how to solve problems collaboratively, so that they know how to settle arguments amicably.

Kersty Franklin will be talking more about these points in a fundraising presentation titled, “Creating the Parent I’d Like to Be,” to be held on the 10th of November, 7 in the evening, at the Dufferin Child and Family Services building along 655 Riddell Rd. here in Orangeville.

Admission is $15.00, with proceeds of the event going to the Dufferin Parent Support Network.
