Lynn Miles in Concert At Studio Theatre Perth

We have added a second afternoon show because of the demand! Tickets are available at:
“The music of Lynn Miles is truly one of a kind. Not only is she one of Canada’s best singer-songwriters, she’s one of the best, period. Folk music has many voices but hers is a voice that stands out, it’s a voice that knows the ways and long twisting back roads of the world, a voice that has lived and conveys that living through every song. It’s a voice we all know. ” (James Diaz of Anti-Heroin Chic ).

Merry Christmas! :-)

Many Canadians have a day off work on December 25 and many spend the day with close relatives or friends. It is customary to exchange gifts, enjoy a special festive meal and, perhaps, attend a special church service.

In some Canadian families and in the United States, a mythical figure called Santa Claus brings gifts. He travels on a sleigh pulled by reindeer, enters homes via the chimney and leaves presents and candy in Christmas stockings or in a pile under the Christmas tree. In other families, individual members exchange carefully selected gifts. Popular gifts are toys, games and candy for children and clothes, music, alcohol and practical or luxury items for adults. Canadians may open their presents on Christmas Eve after a special church service or during the morning or after lunch on Christmas Day.

The original meaning of Christmas is a special church service, or mass, to celebrate the birth of Christ. The story of the Nativity, or the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, are particularly important in religious celebrations of Christmas. However, many traditions that are around today have their roots in pre-Christian winter festivals. These include the importance of candles and decorations made from evergreen bushes and tree, symbolizing everlasting light and life.

Maudie

presented by
Studio Theatre Perth
our movies keep getting better and better

In MAUDIE, arthritic Maud Dowley (Sally Hawkins)– who’s living in Nova Scotia with her selfish aunt — is shocked to learn that her money-loving brother has sold their family home. She answers an ad to become a housekeeper for a local fish peddler, Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke), and, after a rocky start, she starts to fit in. He lets her paint flowers and birds on the walls of his small home (where she also now lives). A customer sees the paintings and, later, asks to buy some postcards that Maud has made. This eventually leads to widespread success; even Vice President Richard Nixon buys one of Maud’s painting in the 1950s. Maud and Everett eventually decide to marry, but the extra attention being paid to Maud because of her art rankles the inarticulate Everett, causing tension in the house. But despite the many challenges they face, they discover that happiness is within their reach.

An Evening with Sherlock Holmes

Christmas Fundraiser

starring Kieran More
December 10-13, 2020
December ideally is a time of gathering around the fire, whilst outside the snow falls on the ground. It is a perfect opportunity to listen to stories being read aloud, allowing yourself to become lost in clever mysteries from bygone days.

Kieran More has tread the boards at the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival, the Ottawa Little Theatre, as well as at Perth Studio Theatre in an early production of Robert Service’s Yukon Gold. Upon retiring and moving to Perth, he set about recording several Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories for long term care residents and staff to enjoy, as a way of giving back to the community in these challenging times. Having a story told to you is a priceless gift, and Kieran is a master storyteller. Now he will grace our stage for four performances only, taking on the personas of Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes, and numerous other colorful characters in two short stories -The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle, and The Man with the Twisted Lip.

Snuggle into one of our comfy theatre seats, wear your mask, and slip into the world of the greatest detective of all time. This fundraiser for Perth Studio Theatre is a perfect opportunity to wile a way a few hours.

In home viewing: $17.50
Tickets for live show: $20
