Here’s a list of ongoing events at the Perth Public Library. Come out and find more than just good books!
Children’s events:
Babytime for babies ages 0-12 months and their caregivers runs in 6-week sessions beginning in January, March, May, September and November. The next session runs September 9-October 14. Call (613) 267-1224 to register.
Storytime for children ages 1-4 years and their caregivers runs in 6-week sessions beginning in January, March, May, September and November. The next session runs September 10-October 15. Call (613) 267-1224 to register.
Good Night Moon storytime for children 0-6 is held the third Thursday of each month from 6:30-7:15 p.m. This is a chance to attend story time with your child if you work during the day. Kids are welcome to come in pajamas. Drop-in.
Playgroup: On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings during the school year, the Ontario Early Years Centre holds its Perth playgroup at the library from 10-11:30 a.m. Registration is required for library programs, but the playgroup is drop-in for ages 0-6. You do not have to attend both storytime and the playgroup. You are welcome to bring a snack to the playgroup, but no nut products, please. Baby Talk: On Tuesday mornings, a Health Unit nurse joins playgroup to speak with new moms and dads about issues such as child development, nursing, post-partum depression, and nutrition.
7/12 Club The 7/12 Club for kids ages 7-12 meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 4-5 p.m. Register by calling (613) 267-1224. Each month features a reading corner, games, and crafts.
PA Day movies On PA Days throughout the school year, we’ll show free kids movies at 1 p.m. Upcoming dates are September 26 and October 24. Drop-in.
Teen events:
Teen Book Club: The Teen Book Club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m., with books chosen by group members. Sign up to get a copy of the book to read in advance of the meeting.
Wednesdays Are Teen Days: Every Wednesday at 4 p.m., we have special events for teens: crafts, anime, movies, gaming, and more. Teens also get to use the equipment in the Create! Digital Media Lab. Drop-in.
Adult events:
Welcome to Your E-Reder: Got a new e-reader or want to start using your iPad or tablet to get free books from the library? Come learn the ins and outs of the library’s e-books system, OverDrive, in this one-hour session. Tuesday, September 16, 6:30 p.m. Drop-in.
Fall Decor with Leaves that’ll Last: Marguerite from Art & Class leads a craft program for adults. Decorate preserved leaves that you can then use to make wreaths, napkin holders, centerpieces and more. $15 materials fee. Registration limited to 20; teens may attend if accompanied by adults. Computer Help: The library offers one-on-one computer tutoring sessions for beginners from September to June. Learn how to use a computer, set up an email account, download e-books, or whatever you need. Sessions are by registration only. Slots are for an hourlong session Tuesdays from 3-5 p.m. or Fridays from 10 a.m.-noon. Call (613) 267-1224 to book a session.
Open Knitting Group: An informal knitting group meets at the library the third Monday of each month from September to June from 1-3 p.m. Drop-in. No experience required. Bring your own knitting project.
Books on Tap: This book club will meet every other month at Backbeat Books and reads “crossover” literature (adult books that teens like and teen books that adults like). The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. for a discussion of Alice, I Think by Susan Juby. Call to get a copy of the book.
Readalikes book club: This book club will introduce you to lesser-known works that you’ll love if you’ve read some of these popular titles. First Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Sign up to get a copy of the book to read in advance. Upcoming books are:

Film Night International: Film Night International continues with a great selection of foreign films. Proceeds support the Perth and Smiths Falls libraries. Screenings are Wednesdays at 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. at the Full Circle Theatre. Limited tickets may be available at the door. Learn more.
