Thunder Bay Students Take to the Stage for Drunk Driving Play

To demonstrate the effects of drunk driving on the youth in a fresh and unique way, 12th grade drama students from St. Patrick High School have teamed up with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to produce a stage play titled ‘Smashed’.

What’s more, the play was primarily written, directed, and produced by the students themselves, with a little direction and inspiration from their drama club teacher and staff from the local Health Unit.

Thunder Bay student Danielle Pollari, was tasked with co-writing the play’s script and also took the role of the angel Victoria in the story. According to her, she wanted the play to involve a number of different themes, but opted instead to focus on drinking and driving.

Another St. Patrick High student, 16-year old Joseph Willis, took on the lead character of Noah, who wakes up in the first few scenes of the play to find out he’s dead due to a car accident. Acting wasn’t a problem for him, he said. As peer pressure is something he’s experienced before, especially in parties where alcohol is available.

The students had their first performance on Monday and will have repeat performances on Thursday and Friday this week at the St. Patrick High School auditorium at 7 in the evening.
