About Thunder Bay Ontario

Thunder Bay Ontario

Thunder Bay Ontario

Thunder Bay Ontario used to be two different cities called Port Arthur and Fort William. These twin cities were merged into what it is called today in the year 1970. It got its name from the humongous bay found at the topmost part of the famous Lake Superior.  Because of its geography, the city is often called by locals and Canadians as the Canadian Lakehead or simply put, the Lakehead.

The city’s economy used to be fired by manufacturing and forestry however, due to the apparent decline of such industries, the city has been forced to wear a different hat brought about by the educational sector and that of research. A concrete evidence of such a shift can clearly be felt by the presence of the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute and more than 50 different educational institutions headed by Lakehead University.

Today, tourists and locals alike love the four season outdoor and indoor excitement and fun that Thunder Bay and its surrounding areas provide. Some of the major leisure attractions here include hunting, where moose and deer population is healthily under control. Besides what nature has to offer, Thunder Bay is also home to a number or renowned artisans and art galleries abound to house their crafts.
