31Yankee Doodle Dandy

A musical film about George M. Cohan. James Cagney, Joan Leslie, and Walter Huston star in this 1942 musical film about George M. Cohan, known as “The Man Who Owned Broadway.” Critics called the film “as entertaining as any top film musical ever made … James Cagney does a Cohan of which the original George M. might well be proud.” Others wrote: “Much of its entertainment value is due to the exceptionally fine performance of James Cagney, whose impersonation of Mr. Cohan is uncanny—his gestures, his talk, and his dancing, are done to perfection.” The film won Academy Awards for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” (James Cagney), “Best Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture” and “Best Sound, Recording.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; movie starts at 7:00 p.m. A $5 donation is encouraged.

30Gladdening Light Symposium 2017

Our world today is divided, bifurcated between the zero-sum binaries of win/lose, good and evil, either/or, profane and holy. Franciscan activist Richard Rohr invites us to see beyond these social entrapments toward the beauty of paradox, a hopeful horizon of unitive consciousness where everything belongs. He will be joined by Haitian surrealist painter Frantz Zephirin. It will begin with an opening reception January 26, 2017, at 6 p.m. and will run through January 29.

All events will occur within close proximity to downtown Winter Park and Rollins College. The cost is $330 for the entire weekend, although some lectures are priced separately. The Ó Súil-leabháin brothers will give a free performance Saturday at 8 p.m. in Tiedtke Concert Hall on the Rollins College campus.
