Crealdé 40th Anniversary Homecoming Exhibition Opening Reception
Crealdé-inspired artists who have taken classes here in the not too recent past and who have moved on to become exhibiting professional artists share current work and stories of how their artistic careers were influenced through experiences at the school. This exhibition is curated by Barbara Tiffany, Director, Painting & Drawing and Chair, Crealdé Gallery Committee. The opening reception Friday, June 5, coincides with the Annual Membership Meeting, from 7-7:30 p.m., followed by a reception until 9:30 p.m. The exhibition continues through August 15.

St. Augustine at 450: A Crealdé Documentary Project Opening Reception at Hannibal Square Heritage Center

The Photography Department, during a special master class, produced this exhibition of photographs and oral histories of the oldest city in the United States during its anniversary year. The exhibition examines the city’s past, its preservation efforts and its place as a tourist destination, college town and home to a diverse population. Produced and curated by documentary photographers and faculty members Peter Schreyer and Sherri Bunye. Reception 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 19. The exhibition continues through August 29.

June 26 – Crealdé Photography Guild presents Sherri Bunye in a discussion of her experiences teaching Crealdé’s Storytellers Teen Documentary Project. Join us on the last Friday of the month to share time with people that have a passion for photography. Presentations are 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Showalter Hughes Community Gallery, Crealdé School of Art, 600 St. Andrews Blvd., Winter Park, FL 32792. Boulevard on June 11, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Attendees will receive their

Winter Park High School Bands Memorial Weekend Pops Concert

The Winter Park High School Bands will present two concerts in May to finish the band program’s 75th anniversary season. The Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Freshman Jazz Band will perform an array of music that showcases the bands tradition of musical excellence.

The Spring Concert will be held on Wednesday, May 6, and will feature works by Aaron Copland, Paul Hindemith, and David Gillingham. It will also feature senior concerto winner Sara Nazarian on the Chaminade flute concerto.

The Memorial Weekend Pops Concert will be held on Friday, May 22, and will include lighter works by Frank Ticheli, Chuck Mangione, and John Philip Sousa. It will feature our second senior concerto winner, Matthew Mignardi, on the famous Carnival of Venice. The concert will conclude with a salute to our nation with performances of the Armed Forces Salute, America the Beautiful, and Stars and Stripes Forever!

Both concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Ann Derflinger Auditorium on the Winter Park High School main campus, 2100 Summerfield Road, Winter Park, FL 32792. Admission is free, and the public is warmly invited to attend.

The Winter Park High School bands are under the direction of Director Christopher Blackmer, and Associate Director Michael Clemente.

Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.

The Winter Park Playhouse, central Florida’s only professional musical theater, will offer this FREE performance of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. on the outdoor stage at The Winter Park Community Center’s Ruby Ball Amphitheater. The performance is sponsored by The Winter Park Rotary Foundation. The event is open to all and patrons are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs (rain or shine) and enjoy this high-energy musical with family and friends.

Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. is one of musical theater’s brightest and most innovative shows. Based on the Emmy Award-winning 1970’s educational cartoon series, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. uses a wide array of musical styles to teach grammar, math, science, history and social studies.

Spring Cleanup

It’s that time of year again! Now is the time for spring cleaning just in time for the summer. The City of Winter Park encourages residents to participate in the city’s annual Spring Cleanup which will be held during the month of May. The annual Spring Cleanup provides an extra “bonus” pickup day so that residents can dispose of old furniture, broken appliances and other bulky items. To take advantage of this convenient service, residents must place their items curbside after 5 p.m. on the evening prior to their second regularly scheduled pickup day. Households North of Fairbanks/Aloma avenues – week of May 4. Households South of Fairbanks/Aloma avenues – week of May 11. (Hazardous waste and yard waste is not included in the spring cleanup.)
