The 2nd annual 1000 Islands Wine & Food Festival presented by Brockville and Disctrict Tourism will be taking place on June 17 – 18, 2011 at the Brockville Memorial Centre (Magedoma Blvd., Brockville, ON). There will be local food producers, Ontario and international wineries, Ontario micro breweries, wine and cooking demonstrations, wine and food tasting, local artists and live entertainment.

The Brockville and District Multicultural Council have organized the event. The event will admit children under 5 years of age for free. However, the event will charge entrance fees for students, seniors and adults. For students and seniors, entrance fees are priced at $3.50 while adults are charged at $4 for entry. Prices are totally reasonable for something that you will certainly enjoy and have fun seeing. Brockville’s Feed-In Tariff application has been approved by the Ontario Power Authority. The process is now being initiated to establish one of the largest municipally operated rooftop solar generation in Canada atop of the Brockville Memorial Centre. Over 1,200 solar panels will be installed over the summer and early fall, generating over 230 kW of energy into the Ontario Power grid. The intent is for project completion by late October/November which ultimately will generate revenues for the City of Brockville in the $200,000 range annually. Upper Canada Solar, a local solar installation firm, has completed the necessary engineering and will install the units shortly.
