Build a Mountain of Food

The Build a Mountain of Food is the biggest foodraiser for all food banks in Lanark County. The food collected during this event (along with holiday drives) provides enough overstock at the warehouse to carry us through to the end of January (maybe even February).

The grocery stores that are involved in this event provide pre-package bags of food items that we have asked for, plus our volunteers hand out our wish list if the bags don’t appeal.

Safe food handling Certification

The Canadian Career Academy is pairing up with the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit to provide the Food Handler Certification Program.

“Well informed food handlers provide safer foods, understand their responsibilities clearly and may improve the bottom line of a business, by reducing food waste and liability. While currently not mandatory in all areas of Ontario, food handler training is encouraged by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The health unit works with local food businesses to help meet their needs for training by providing options for learning and specific training aimed at specific groups.”

After completing a standardized closed book multiple choice exam and achieving a minimum grade of 70% you will receive a food handler certificate. Your certificate will be available within 15 days of completing your exam and is valid for 5 years.

Fee: $35.
