Upcoming Events in Celebration

September is about to end, bringing us closer to a number of fun events taking place next month here in Celebration, Florida.

On the 2nd of October, the Reunion Resort and Club will be hosting the 9th Annual Celebration Town Tavern Charity Golf Outing. The championship event will be played by 2-player teams, with the field open only to 144 players. Registration is still open to interested participants but hurry though, as the limited slots have been filling up very quickly, so you might have to sit this one out and wait for next year’s championship. Proceeds of this fundraising event will go to Celebration High School Athletic Booster Program, the PTSA and the K-8 PTA, bolstering the quality of the town’s school athletic and academic programs.

October also means Halloween! Not only can families here in Celebration expect take part in trick-or-treating fun, they can also let their pets join in on the action at the “Purr”fectly fun “Howl”oween Pet Photo Contest! So spruce up your pet’s hairstyle and get him or her a costume to make an awesome picture. Registration for pet photographs begins on the 1st of October, running until the 15th. Judging will be on the 18th to the 29th, with the winners to be announced on the final day of judging.

Afterschool Homework Assistance Program

Scribbles, Your Little Home is offering their afterchool homework assistance program starting August 23, 2010 from 3:30pm to 7:00pm.

Celebration Celebrates Oktoberfest

October is almost upon us and come the 8th and the 9th, Celebration Town Center will undergo a transformation, as the season’s falling leaves cover Market Street for the well-known autumn celebration known as Oktoberfest. Expect to see beautiful and rustling colored leaves while you enjoy the music by the lakeside, or rock out with your friends or family in this unique once-a-year extravaganza.

The fun kicks off on the 8th of October, Friday, with Oktoberfest celebrated in the age-old German tradition. The first half of the event will feature the sound of Dan Witucki & Heimatland Musikanten. Everyone in town, young and old, is invited to join in this one-of-a-kind live show, featuring sing-a-long segments and good old yodeling.

Then the next day on the 9th, join the crowd at Celebration Town Center as they welcome Kattyshack. The Central Florida party band has been featured on local and national media and was hailed as one of the acts to watch out for in Florida. If you’re looking to get your musical fix from the 80’s, then you don’t want to miss out on this party.

Other activities include hayrides, pumpkin paintings, and a whole lot more.

Special Screening of the Blind Side in Celebration

Movie buffs listen up! If you’ve yet to the see the Academy Award nominated film The Blind Side, now’s the opportunity for you to finally watch it. Celebration’s Parks and Recreation is hosting a screening of this family feature on the 23rd of July, at 7 in the evening. Doors open 30 minutes before screening time, which should be enough for you to grab some food and drinks. You might want to show up early to get good sitting spots too.

Starring Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side tells the story of Michael Oher, a homeless African-American youth taken in by a wealthy white family. From there, Michael learns of what it’s like to be part of a family, while his newfound family learns the gift of selflessness and sharing. The film has earned Sandra Bullock her first ever Academy Award, besting other nominees such as Carrie Mulligan and Meryl Streep.

Again, food and drinks will be available at the venue; don’t forget to bring a blanket to sit on as well. Celebrate the Summer Break with Summer Breakout 2010

It’s time to enjoy the summer once more!

For 2010, Celebration’s Parks and Recreation is cooking up an exciting summer program for kids ages 5- to 12-years old. The summer program, which lasts for an entire month, features weekly themed activities as well events and other games & surprises that are unique to each week.

But the program isn’t just about games and prizes. Children who join the summer program get the opportunity to learn while having loads of fun. Aspiring scientists can have all the educational fun they can have at Wonderworks, while the folks at Gatorland will be busy showing kids an up-close and personal look at some of Florida’s most popular alligators. There’s even an art week for children who want to unleash their inner artists through different forms of media. The highlight of art week however, is sure to be splash wall art.

The summer program takes place at Lakeside Park, on the 14th of June, until the 20th of August, at 8:30 in the morning to 6 in the evening. Registration is now in full swing, so don’t be left behind and have your kids join now! Remember that slots to the event are limited, so act now while there’s still time and space.

Celebration Hosts ‘Art Stroll’

Celebration is gearing up for another grand ‘celebration’, as the Artists of Celebration, together with Lexin Capital, host the Celebration Art Stroll once again. The art show takes place on the 22nd of May, and will feature artists showing demonstrations on how to create art works such as watercolour paintings, charcoal sketches, oil paintings, and many more. The ‘Stroll’ kicks off at 5:30 in the afternoon, ending at 9:00 in the evening.

The show will feature all sorts of activities for the whole family, including a Life Drawing station, where visitors can get a quick-sketch portrait of them themselves for only $20.00. All they have to do is stay still for a session that lasts 10 minutes at most. Aroceeds gathered at the station will be donated to an Artists of Celebration partner charity.

According Rob Kaz, one of the artists who’ll be at the event, the Art Stroll gives artists like him a better opportunity at showing the public the magic and wonder of art, whether it’s through drawing, sculpting, painting or what have you. Seeing the delighted reactions of visitors in an instant is priceless, he said.

It’s an understatement to say that Rob is excited for the event.

Celebration Hosts a Unique Event for Breast Cancer

Taking place in Celebration, Florida, on the 21st of May is an event that calls for support and pledges for the fight against breast cancer.

Dubbed as the “Promise Chair Affair,” this event is a celebration that features local breast cancer survivors who have come together to raise awareness on the importance of cancer research. Seven cancer survivors in Celebration have spent most of their time hand painting wooden chair in recognition of their chosen theme. The survivors not only got to work together, they also shared their stories and had some laughs – for some, it was an experience far better than the days they spent fighting the disease.

And now the time has come to present their hand painted chairs to the public at The Promise Chair Affair and auction them off for a cause.

Again, the event takes place on the 21st of May, Friday, at the Mystic Dunes Resort & Golf Club in Celebration. The event will be an elegant evening of laughs and good food, all in honor of Celebration’s breast cancer survivors and the fight against the deadly disease.  The Promise Chair Affair will feature a nice dinner, good music, and a whole lot more. Don’t miss out on this event for a cause.

Celebration Hosts 2010 Relay for Life

Taking place on the 14th and 15th of May is an event in Celebration, Florida, that celebrates the spirit and energy of cancer survivors and the caregivers who spend their time caring for those afflicted with the debilitating disease.

The Relay for Life, which will be held at Lakeside Park, is aimed at giving voices to these individuals, as well as commemorating those who lost the battle against cancer. This year’s event will have the theme, “Welcome to Broadway: Cancer’s Final Curtain Call.”

Some of the activities at the Relay for Life include amazing aerial performances by the group, Anti-Gravity, as well as musical performances by the town’s very own Celebration Relay Teams. Celebration Montessori School’s Taiko Drum Performers are set to kick off the event’s entertainment, while Babe Plant and Joe Magic will be taking care of the music as the evening goes by.

Those interested in staying fit will be assisted by Segways, who’ll be helping with laps around the lake for only $5.00. Proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life Celebration.

The 18 hour Relay is an event filled with non-stop fun, laughter, and of course support and inspiration. Relay Teams will be busy selling food and other items such as clothes, books and many more, so don’t forget to bring some cash with you so you don’t come home empty handed.

Krispy Kreme Donut Deliveries in Celebration

Have a weakness for donuts? If you happen to be in Celebration, Florida, next month, then you’re in for a treat as the Town Hall’s Relay for Life Team is offering to deliver a box, or boxes, of sumptuous, fresh off the oven, Krispy Kreme Donuts, right at your doorstep!

Celebration’s Town Hall Staff will be in charge of making delivery runs on the mornings of May 1st and the 8th—which are both Saturdays—at 8 to 9 in the morning. The world-famous glazed donuts cost only $10.00 a dozen, which is a pretty small cost considering how you don’t have to get out and drive to the nearest Krispy Kreme branch to enjoy them.

To avail of this convenient service, all you have to do is print out an order form which is available online (click here to download the form), fill it up, and bring it in advance to the Celebration Town Hall or Community Centre. Deadline for orders is on the 6th of May, so you have less than a week to submit your forms. Remember that you have to pay before placing an order, so don’t forget to bring cash with you.

And while you’re at it, make a donation for Celebration’s Relay for Life, which takes place on the 14th and 15th of May, at Lakeside Park.
