Digital Collection Finally Becomes a Reality
With the launching of the new digital collection entitled, “Lakes and Islands, Times Past,” a joint effort by the Rideau Lakes Public Library and Leeds and Thousand Islands Public Library, a dream for those living in the region finally came true. The collection was launched earlier this month on the 2nd of June at the library’s branch in Lyndhurst, and it seems that the occasion was a smashing success.
Apparently, the idea of collecting historic pictures and documents and giving the public better access to them was a project long discussed by the Leeds and Thousand Islands Public Library before getting the help of the Rideau Lakes Public Library. The idea was simple really: to take old photographs and important historical documents, scan them and upload them to a computer for everyone to see.
The simple idea however, tickled the fancy of others in the area, and in no time, the LTIPL and RLPL had the help and cooperation of other partners in the region, including the Delta Mill Society and Township of Rideau Lakes Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee among others.
For those who have a love of history and those who want to know more about the community they live in, the digital collection is a must-see and undeniable eye-opener.
