Thunder Bay Hosts Recruitment Fair for Teachers

The City of Thunder Bay is off to a great start this year, immediately “taking the bull by the horns”, so to speak, on the first few weeks of the New Year.

Last Friday, representatives from dozens of educational and learning companies from all over the world gathered in Thunder Bay, to take part in the 12th annual New Teachers Recruitment Fair, which took place at the Lakehead University.

The job fair was open to almost all interested residents with education backgrounds. This was especially a good opportunity for new teachers, who found it hard to look for jobs due to the recession.

Representatives from around 35 Canada-based schools, along with a large number of overseas agencies, took part in the job fair that drew in plenty of fresh graduates off of Lakehead Univesrity’s Education program.

According to Lakehead Career Officer Christina Buzzi, the demand for teachers has undergone a very noticeable shift over the past 3 years. She adds that openings for teaching jobs in Thunder Bay are rare, more so with the recent economic crisis. However, demand for teachers in Western Canada has risen, prompting many to relocate there in search of greener pastures.
