Winter Park High School Band 75th Anniversary Fall Concert

ID-10065939On Thursday, October 16, the Winter Park High School Bands will commence their 75th Anniversary Year with a fall concert. Most of the Winter Park High School Bands will perform, including the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble, and the concert will feature a wide variety of music. 

The fall concert is part of the Homecoming events during the week and, in a special celebration of the 75th year of the Winter Park High School band program, many former WPHS band directors and band alumni will be in attendance.

The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Ann Derflinger Auditorium on the Winter Park High School main campus, 2100 Summerfield Road, Winter Park, FL 32792. Admission is free, and the public is warmly invited to attend.

The Winter Park High School bands are under the direction of Director Christopher Blackmer, Christopher.Blackmer@ocps.net, and Associate Director Michael Clemente,Michael.Clemente@ocps.net.

Small Business Education Series

ID-100129662The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Small Business Resource Network host a monthly educational program for small business owners. The seminar series is designed with small business owners and professionals in mind and provides the necessary fundamentals of, and resources for, growing and sustaining a profitable organization in our community.

Each month features a different speaker and topic. Programs are be held on the third Friday of each month, with few exceptions.

Autumn Art Festival

The Winter Park Autumn Art Festival, presented by Florida Distributing Company and Subaru celebrates its 41st anniversary onSaturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, 2014.  At its permanent home in Central Park, located along beautiful Park Avenue, the Winter Park Autumn Art Festival is the only juried fine art show to showcase Florida artists exclusively.

“The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce continues the tradition of hosting one of Central Florida’s most cherished art festivals which inspires, entertains and educates our community,” said Winter Park Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, Patrick Chapin. “The arts have a huge impact on our quality of life and we are pleased to showcase Florida artists during this two-day celebration.”

From over 400 applications, 156 of Florida’s outstanding artists were selected to display their works in eight different categories, including ceramics, drawings and graphics, fiber, fine crafts, jewelry, painting, photography and sculpture. Prize money awarded by festival judges in 2014 will exceed $16,000.

Local artist Sally Evans created the festival poster for 2014 featuring a vibrant painting of lily pads. Posters can be purchased in advance at the Winter Park Welcome Center, located at 151 W. Lyman Avenue.  In addition, the scene will be featured on postcards, t-shirts and tote bags with all merchandise available at the festival.

New this year, patrons can enjoy seasonal craft beers in the Florida Distributing Company beer garden, located near the Central Park stage. A portion of the proceeds from the beer garden will benefit Chamber Cares, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce’s philanthropic effort. Throughout the festival, attendees will continue to enjoy live musical entertainment on the Central Park Stage, children’s activities led by instructors from The Crealdé School of Art, food vendors and a sidewalk sale at local merchants. Plus,

visit the Disney prize wheel booth for a chance to win prizes from “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” and “Big Hero 6”. The festival is free and open to the public both days from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Park Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic during the festival from New England Avenue to Canton Avenue.  Ample parking can be found on area side streets and parking garages. A bicycle valet will also be organized by the Winter Park Pedestrian Bicycle Board in the West Meadow.

Crealdé’s Makers Fair Orlando

Alan Noon of Epic Games to Speak At Full Sail University

ceToday from 6-9pm Alan Noon will be at Full Sail University’s Entertainment Business Auditorium speaking about Unreal Engine 4, Epic Games’s powerful game engine suite.

Alan will give a brief overview of the tools and technologies that Epic uses to build its high-quality games. Alan has more than 20 years experience in the game industry in content creation, game design, and project management. There will be various demos during Alan’s presentation, and a Q&A session will follow. This is a GPS event.
