6th Annual Pumpkin Run 5K to benefit the people of Haiti

This family-friendly event is a fundraiser for mission projects in Haiti and is sponsored by St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, St. Stephen Catholic Community and other friends of Haiti. Proceeds from the event will benefit the people of Haiti with health, education and economic development. Awards will be presented to the top male and female runners and competitive walkers and top three finishers for each age division. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

Winter Park’s 5th Annual Veteran’s Day Celebration

The city will present its 5th Annual Veterans Day Celebration to honor all of the veterans of Winter Park, Florida. The city calls all veterans that have served in any military campaign or military branch in honor of our nation’s freedom. This event pays tribute to their dedicated service to our country and the community is invited to join us in honoring these distinguished men and women.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the VFW Post 2093 Community Band will be entertaining guests as they visit with organizations and services that offer resources specifically for veteran needs. At 10 a.m., the official program will begin with musical tributes, anecdotal speakers including Lt. Chuck Nadd, and recognition of veterans according to the various military branches served.

Park Avenue Fashion Week is a seven-day celebration of the local fashion retail and design community. For complete list of trunk shows, designer meet-and-greets, details on the Runway Show and tickets, visit www.parkavenuefashionweek.com

Each year, PAFW seeks out designers, design students and fashion aficionados to apply for the Emerging Designer Contest. This annual competition recognizes up-and-coming talent and challenges designers to a series of tasks to determine one winner that is announced the night of the main runway show.

Contestants will be asked to submit an application and sketches of their work, once chosen to compete in the Emerging Designer Competition, showcase three of their designs to an elite panel of judges followed with a Project Runway inspired challenge. Five semi-finalists will be announced at the Emerging Designer Fashion Show, then they will have to feature their Project Runway inspired challenge at the main runway show on October 17th. The winner will receive a month’s worth of showcasing in a PAFW boutique accompanied by a trunk show and professional photographs of their looks featured on the runway.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Household Hazardous Waste DisposalThe city in partnership with Waste Pro® for household hazardous waste and A1 Assets, Inc., for e-waste, will be offering waste disposal for all city residents at the Public Works Compound (1409 Howell Branch Road) directly behind Fire Station 64.

The following items will be accepted: fertilizers & pesticides, antifreeze, propane tanks, paint thinners, wet latex paint (dry latex paint is not hazardous waste and can go in trash), oil based paint (can be wet or dry), non-alkaline batteries (regular alkaline batteries can go in trash), gasoline, used engine oil, pool chemicals, household chemicals, tires (maximum of four), used motor oil, e-waste (computers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, FAX machines, CD players & stereos).
