Alan Noon of Epic Games to Speak At Full Sail University

ceToday from 6-9pm Alan Noon will be at Full Sail University’s Entertainment Business Auditorium speaking about Unreal Engine 4, Epic Games’s powerful game engine suite.

Alan will give a brief overview of the tools and technologies that Epic uses to build its high-quality games. Alan has more than 20 years experience in the game industry in content creation, game design, and project management. There will be various demos during Alan’s presentation, and a Q&A session will follow. This is a GPS event.

Educational Update Breakfast

HUNTER VISION WATERMELON 5K

Watermelon-Hunter iconHere’s what you need to know about the Hunter Vision Watermelon 5k run this coming July 4th.

The 5k run starts at 7am, and the kids run starts at 8:15am. Come to Park Avenue in Winter Park, 251 Park Avenue South Winter Park, FL 32789.

Runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts of all ages can have summertime fun by participating in the Hunter Vision Watermelon 5k, Friday, July 4 on Park Avenue in Downtown Winter Park. The 3.1-mile run/walk begins at 7:00 a.m. It’s an All-American-style celebration featuring a shady course, entertainment, free kids’ run and the crowd favorite, the Watermelon Eating Contest.  Participants can show support for local military personnel in three ways:

1) Discount entry to active and retired military personnel and their families.

2) Food Drive. Contribute a non-perishable food items for distribution through the Orlando VA

Medical Center’s Veterans in Need Program.

3) Team Challenge competition.  Runners and walkers form teams of any kind: corporate, running club, ROTC, church group, etc. All teams receive recognition and the largest team will have a $500 donation made on their behalf to a local 501© (3) organization that supports military service. All 5k registrants who are active or retired military service personnel and/or military family members will receive special recognition by a unique bib number and will be entered into a prize drawing to win a Military Appreciation Staycation!  Staycation elements include a two night stay at Rosen Centre and a $75 Darden restaurant gift card. The randomly chosen winner will be announced after the race.

HVWKidsTrack Shack created this event in hopes of celebrating a wholesome community in order to raise funds for the Track Shack Foundation which supports local active and retired military personnel and their families. The Track Shack Foundation is a 501 ©(3) organization whose mission is to promote health and fitness with an emphasis on youth athletics.

In order to run in this race you must be a registered runner. Here’s a break down of the race fees.

Entry Fee:
$25 through June 28……$29…..June 29 – July 3
$15 Age 17 & under and age 65 & over
$15 Active, retired military personnel and military family members through July 3.
$35 Race Day at race day at race site

Track Shack’s Celebration of Running 5k Presented by Florida Hospital

COR small icon for surveyOn August 16 at 7:30am join us for a running and walking celebration! Track Shack’s 22nd Annual Celebration of Running 5k kicks off the 37th anniversary of the store and the Running Series. This is the first of six premier Orlando running and walking races. 
With the addition of a technical tee shirt and medal for participants, registration is limited to 2,500 entrants.

Old Fashioned Fourth of July

Winter Park FLThe City of Winter Park will present their annual Olde Fashioned 4th of July Celebration! Wear your red, white and blue, bring a blanket or beach chair, and gather with family and friends to enjoy this Winter Park tradition. The annual celebration will feature live patriotic music performed by the Bach Festival Brass Band and the Bach Festival Choir, horse-drawn wagon rides, and much more! Children’s activities will include the annual bicycle parade at 9 a.m. from City Hall to Central Park, and fun games and inflatables. Families and friends are also invited to stroll along Park Avenue and Hannibal Square to shop and dine at the wide selection of boutiques and eateries. FREE hot dogs, watermelon and water will be available while supplies last. Chips, snacks and sodas will be available for purchase. The Pedestrian & Bicycle Advisory Board will be providing a free bike valet service as an incentive for alternative modes of transportation in the beautiful downtown area. The bike valet is available from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the northwest corner of Park Avenue and Morse Blvd. In addition, The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art will present their Independence Day Open House. The museum, which is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of work by American artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, will provide FREE admission to its galleries from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Winter Park Diamond Dawgs vs. Winter Garden Squeeze

Honoring, Gratitude, and Guilt Exhibit

ID-10023413The exhibit, entitled Honoring, Gratitude and Guilt, showcases Brant’s two-year investigation on the subject of honoring animals. Maps, diagrams, photographs, and sculpture made from the bones of common animals coalesce in unexpected ways, as Brant explores her subject through ongoing research, teaching and fieldwork. Among the many intriguing pieces, viewers will find a historical analysis of pet cemetery gravestones consisting of photographs of graves paired with images from contemporary American culture.

You must register for this event to attend, to download a registration form click here. Tickets are $25 per person and each reservation includes a commemorative wine glass and passport.  Tickets will not be mailed – confirmations will be emailed for registrations submitted through PayPal.
