Westport a Great Place to Enjoy the Fall

Autumn has always had a way of transforming the beauty of nature into something charming and even more relaxing to the eyes. The City of Ottawa boasts of a number of excellent spots for great fall views, and some of them are a mere 10- to 20-minute drive away from your own home.

Westport, the largest village in the Rideau Lakes vicinity, is one such area that’s worth the drive. The village enjoys plenty of traffic from visitors and cottagers, and as such, offers plenty of shops, groceries and other specialty stores for you to check out. With an abundance of stores dedicated to specialty food, arts and crafts and unique clothing, Westport is the perfect getaway destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the Big City.

Westport even has some events that coincide with the season. The 21st-annual Fall Colours Studio Tour is set to take place on the 9th to the 11th of October. The event is an open house of different local artists’ studios—a must see for any art buff in Ottawa. For more information on the event, click here.

When it comes to views, the lookouts of Foley Mountain Conservation Area, located just outside the village, are hard to beat. With picnic areas and scenic trails, this 325-hectare park is any nature-lover’s paradise.

Galley Grill & Beverage House

The Galley in Portland Big RideauThe Galley Grill & Beverage House (commonly known as ‘The Galley’) in Portland Ontario has undertaken some major changes this year. Not only have new owners, Tammy & Ken McCarthy, renovated the restaurant, they have also added some new features such as take-out, catering and boat-side delivery.

Even though, some improvements have been made, their fun and lively atmosphere, as well as friendly professional staff still remain the same. The Galley will always be the best restaurant to stop by when boating on the Rideau, or will always be worth the drive if you are not from Portland.

Enjoy a glass of wine or beer as you overlook the breathtaking view of the Big Rideau Lake. Relax with some friends and family while the tunes play in the background and make memories that will last a lifetime! Whether you’re docked at Len’s Cove, just travelling through, or live year round in the Portland neighbourhood, we hope you visit The Galley this summer for a bite and a bevy on their roof-top patio. Located at 11 Water St, Portland, Ontario at Lens Cove Marina.
