Valentine’s day!

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for people in Canada to tell somebody that they love them in a romantic way. It falls on February 14, the name day of two saints, St Valentine of Rome and St Valentine of Terni. In pre-Christian times, the middle of February was a time of pagan fertility festivals in Europe and allegedly the time when birds chose a mate.

What Do People Do?

Many people send letters, cards, presents and gifts to the person with whom they have or want to have a romantic relationship. Valentine’s Day cards are often red or pink and decorated with images of hearts, red roses, teddy bears, presents or happy couples kissing or embracing. They may be in brightly colored, perhaps pink or red, envelopes.

Valentine’s Day can also be an occasion for a more general celebration of love and appreciation of people who are personally important to an individual. School children may help decorate their classrooms with hearts and spring birds and make cards or presents for their parents. Stores may also sell Valentine’s Day themed cakes, cookies or candy. Teenagers and young adults may hold Valentine’s Day parties or dances on or near February 14.

Perth Pumpkin Parade

Perth’s Inaugural Pumpkin Parade kicks off on November 1 from 7:00-8:30 pm, and your pumpkins are needed!
How does it work? After Halloween, bring your carved pumpkin or jack-o-lantern to the Bandshell behind Town Hall, where staff will add a battery-operated tealight and place it in the path. Pumpkins can be dropped off and registered at 6:00 pm, so if you drop it off before then, please make sure to put your name and age group (child, teen, or adult) on the back.
From 7:00-8:30 pm, come by, walk through the pumpkins, and vote for your favourites in each category. Winners will be announced on Perth Tourism’s Facebook page November 2. The event is rain or shine, and there is no charge to participate. Donations to YAK Youth Services will be accepted during the event.
After the event, the Town will pick up the pumpkins and take them to the compost pile. No need to carry your pumpkins home!
Thank you to our sponsors for their generous contributions towards the event: North Folk Café, Treasure Lane by the Tay, Gather, Balderson Kidz, Red Brick Emporium, and Spring Children.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Dress up and sing along

Let’s do the time warp again !

It’s the time to put on your fishnets, wig and little gold shorts for Studio Theatre Perth’s

Night of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Join in with our HOSTESS, Dani who will help us sing along to  ‘The Timewarp’ ‘Sweet Transvestite’, ‘There’s a Light’ ‘I’m Going Home’, ‘Whatever Happened To Saturday Night?’ and ‘Science Fiction Double Feature’

It’s the ultimate cult movie. The first. The biggest. The one cult movie to rule them all. For more than 45 years, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has defined what we mean by a ‘cult’ movie, though few can ever hope to match its phenomenal level of ritualised worship.

The premise:

Sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) are stuck with a flat tire in a storm. They soon discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry) a sweet transvestite scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meatloaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky”
