Perth Farmer’s Market

Perth Farmers Market

The 2024 season officially begins on Saturday May 11th! It will run until Thanksgiving weekend (October 12th) and then we will have our very special Christmas Market in November.

We are scheduling live music every Saturday as well as many special events and activities for kids and adults alike. We hope that you will join us not only for the delicious food but for the warm community that gathers in the heart of downtown Perth.

In 1992 the modern Perth Farmers’ Market was created and has run continuously ever since. The market has mostly been located in and around the Tay Basin in downtown Perth since its start.  In 1994, the “Crystal Palace” was moved from Ottawa to its site on the basin and has added to the ambience of the market ever since.  Many craft vendors sell inside the shelter of the building as well as it being an ideal location for special events of all kinds. The attractive and scenic location, free parking on Saturdays and “al fresco” eating tables combined with local music makes Saturday mornings at the market a winning combination.

Our market is open, rain or shine, every Saturday morning from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM starting on the weekend of Mother’s Day until the Thanksgiving Weekend.  There are also special Christmas markets inside and outside the Crystal Palace and a Seed Sale the first Sunday in March!

Author talk with Melanie Mills

Join Melanie on Saturday February 25th from 2-3:30 as she discusses her book, “Enough Pieces of Crazy to go Around”.

Melanie Mills is a trauma survivor both as a child and young adult, retreating into a fantasy world of her own making. Recognizing the power of each of us to support or destroy each other, Mills started a community group to bring people together which has been running successfully for over 10 years.

Discussing these experiences in her book “Enough Pieces of Crazy to Go Around” readers are encouraged to take another look at mental health, our perceptions around that, and the implications of inadequate support.

Valentine’s day!

Free Stone Artwork Stock Photo

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for people in Canada to tell somebody that they love them in a romantic way. It falls on February 14, the name day of two saints, St Valentine of Rome and St Valentine of Terni. In pre-Christian times, the middle of February was a time of pagan fertility festivals in Europe and allegedly the time when birds chose a mate.

What Do People Do?

Many people send letters, cards, presents and gifts to the person with whom they have or want to have a romantic relationship. Valentine’s Day cards are often red or pink and decorated with images of hearts, red roses, teddy bears, presents or happy couples kissing or embracing. They may be in brightly colored, perhaps pink or red, envelopes.

Valentine’s Day can also be an occasion for a more general celebration of love and appreciation of people who are personally important to an individual. School children may help decorate their classrooms with hearts and spring birds and make cards or presents for their parents. Stores may also sell Valentine’s Day themed cakes, cookies or candy. Teenagers and young adults may hold Valentine’s Day parties or dances on or near February 14.
