Perth Gearing up for Perth Regional Heritage Fair

Although this year’s school history fair in Perth comes under a new name and takes place in a new venue, the wide variety of artwork and creative projects set to be showcased at the event will still be impressive, much like entries in the past. Over 120 elementary schools throughout the region will be joining the fair this year, and organizers couldn’t be more excited.

According John McKenty, co-chairman of the fair which takes place on May 5, this year’s event will now be known as the Perth Regional Heritage Fair, a change from 2009’s Historica Fair. Because Historica was absorbed by the Dominion Institute, McKenty says that the event “basically vanished”, prompting them to “renew” the fair under a new name. The goal and direction of the annual event however, will remain the same, he said.

The Perth Regional Heritage Fair will be held at Perth and District Collegiate Institute because of ongoing renovations at the previous venue, the Perth Community Centre.

Submitted student projects will be classified in 3 categories, namely the national, local, and special category. The special category’s theme changes each year, and for 2010, the theme will be volunteer service.

Participating students are now looking up groups such as fire departments and service clubs to get ideas on their respective entries.
