Head Over Heels on the Patio

HEAD OVER HEELS (Gananaoque, Vocal/Guitar Duo) Bask in the sunshine with amazing entertainment! Kingston’s Kevin Head is an accomplished singer, songwriter, musical director and actor. Formerly from Nova Scotia, where he still has close ties, and once called “The Original Salt Cod Cowboy”, Kevin toured extensively throughout the Maritimes with bands, theatre troupes and as a solo performer/singer, songwriter.

He has performed in shows with Valdy, Charlie Major, The Rankins, Gowan, opened a cross-Canada tour for Chris DeBurgh, acted on stage with the late Denny Doherty, and over the years has had lovely musical contributions on his recordings from Ken Pearson (Janis Joplin, Bruce Cockburn), Willie P Bennett, and Kate McGarrigle.

Kevin’s most recent appearances include a mainstage appearance at the 2012 Blue Skies Festival in Clarendon, hosting the 2012 edition of Liner Notes Live Songwriter Circle, 2012 Limestone City Blues Festival, opening for Alex Cuba with the Bob Robertson Trio as part of the Limewire music series in 2011, and numerous solo appearances and performances with his duo “Head over Heels” in the Kingston, Gananoque and Westport areas. He recently releases a new CD of LIVE material recorded October 2013 with his band and life/musical partner MISS V with whom he performs regularly here at The Cove!

Canoe Building Classes with Ted Moores

Learn strip-plank/epoxy construction while building an elegant, enduring canoe with Ted Moores. Ted is an innovative boat builder, author, teacher and small craft historian. His books, CanoeCraft and KayakCraft, have led thousands of builders through the process of building their own craft and are considered definitive resources on canoe and kayak construction.

Students will work in small teams building one or two boats during this intensive seven-day course. By week’s end, the boats will be up to the final sanding and varnishing stage, ready for the details that will personalize them for their new owners. The canoes and kayaks constructed during a course are raffled on the last day to interested builders for the cost of the materials.

The pace allows students time to confidently develop new skills and enjoy the comfortable satisfaction of doing good work. Ted will set attainable, yet high standards of craftsmanship that will have you feeling tired but satisfied at the end of each day.

Workshops are kept small to allow for individual attention to specific needs. Subjects covered include sharpening and maintaining hand tools, steam bending, laminating and a variety of basic woodworking/boatbuilding tricks and techniques that will be valuable in many different applications.

Westport Public Library Board – Village of Westport

2

It’s hard to believe that the ‘house of books” now located at 3 Spring Street was originally housed in an abandoned butcher shop, lacking electricity and indoor plumbing.

With a nucleus of interested and dedicated people along with strong community involvement the butcher shop was transformed into a small library stocked with one set of encyclopedia donated by the Lions Club, discards from the Toronto and Kingston libraries, as well as private donations. A Public Library Board was established, and the doors opened on February 18, 1947.

The library now functions as a venue for community programs, and in 1997 came on-line agreeing to become a community access terminal.

After 60 years of careful planning and hard work, tireless volunteers have made the Westport Public Library what it is today.
