Thunder Bay Walk for ALS

On Saturday, September 24, 2011, ALS Ontario will be holding its annual walk in Thunder Bay, Ontario. ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) is a progressively paralyzing neuromuscular disease. Most afflicted lose the ability to walk, move, eat and eventually breathe within two to five years of diagnosis.

Registration for the walk will start at the Masonic Temple (1660 Dease Street) at 9:00 am, with the walk going from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Participants can register, obtain pledge forms and find out more details at www.walkforals.ca.

The Thunder Bay Walk for ALS is one of 30 province-wide walks which make up the primary source of income for ALS Ontario. The funds raised allow ALS Ontario to provide equipment and support services to those suffering from this debilitating disease, and also help fund research for a cure.

Northern Credit Union Grand Opening Block Party

The public is invited to a Block Party Benefiting Special Olympics Ontario. Northern Credit Union is celebrating the Grand Opening of its new Thunder Bay branch. The festivities will span two days with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 28, and a block party, open to the public, on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.

The Member Block Party is taking place at 560 Arthur Street West in Thunder Bay from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Relay for Shelter Community Picnic

The Relay for Shelter is not only a fundraiser; it’s also a lot fun. The Relay for Shelter welcomes participants of all ages….you do not have to be a runner or even be athletic, just be ready for some hours of wacky activities, friendly competition and good, clean fun.

With a captain leading the way, teams of any number of colleagues, family and friends sign up and fundraise. Registration fee is $15.00 per (adult) and (children 18 & under) $10.00 which includes t-shirt, picnic lunch, along with entry to the days events. We ask each (adult) participant to raise $125.00 and children under 18 are encouraged to raise $100.00. Teams can hold car washes, BBQS, chili cook-off, 50/50 draws and other creative fundraising events, and all pledges of $10.00 or more are tax receipted. Teams can be made up of anyone who likes to have fun and who will help raise much needed $$$ & awareness about Shelter House.

56TH Annual Shrine Circus

The Lakehead Shrine Club will once again be presenting 2011 annual Shrine Circus at the Fort William Gardens. All of this year performances will feature first time acts in Thunder Bay. Show dates and times are; Friday May 13th 4:00pm & 8:00pm Saturday May 14th 2:00pm & 6:00pm Advance tickets are available at the box office at a cost of $13.00. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for a price of $15.00. Children 4 years of age and younger are FREE.
