Perth Country Music Jam

The Perth Country Music Jam will be held on the 4th Sunday of the Month.

A Country Jamboree has been held for several years in Lanark and at the Lions Hall in Perth since 1995. The Lions have discontinued their involvement in the event and Stan Clarke has organized our club to host this popular event on a monthly basis. The Civitan Country Music Jam is at the hall on the 4th Sunday, of every month from 2.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. This is a fun afternoon of dancing to country music by local musicians who volunteer their talent. Admission is $15.00 which includes dinner, dancing and the entertainment. Mark your calendars now.

Paul Reddick in Perth

On Thursday, January 25th, 2018, PAUL REDDICK visits Perth’s Studio Theatre as part of his Winter Blues Tour. He will take the stage at the Studio Theatre at 8pm.

Melding poetry, mystery, darkness and light, along with an extensive knowledge of the history and traditions of blues music is what makes Paul Reddick one of the most popular figures on the blues and roots music scene today. For over 25 years he’s been writing and performing his eclectic brand of blues, bringing the art form to new frontiers with his rapacious, deep vocals, masterful harmonica playing and song writing.

PERTH BLUE WINGS VS. RENFREW TIMBERWOLVES

On Sunday, January 21st, at 3pm, the PERTH BLUE WINGS take on the RENFEW TIMBERWOLVES, at the Perth & District Community Centre, 2 Beckwith St. East, Perth.

About the Perth Blue Wings:

Junior hockey began in Perth in the late 1920s with the creation of the Perth Juniors. During the 1937-38 season the Juniors began to use the nickname Blue Wings. The original incarnation of the Perth Juniors/Blue Wings competed in the Rideau League, the Lanark County Junior Hockey League, the Upper Ottawa Valley Junior Hockey League, the Junior Big Four and the Ottawa City Junior Hockey League. During the latter part of the 1930s, the Wings were one of the top teams in the Ottawa and District Amateur Hockey Association. In 1937-38, the Blue Wings won the Ottawa and District championship which placed them in the playdowns for the Memorial Cup. The Blue Wings subsequently defeated the Halifax Canadians and the Verdun Maple Leafs before meeting the Oshawa Generals for the Eastern Canada championship for a berth in the Memorial Cup championship. The Generals defeated the Blue Wings in two games.

The Blue Wings folded following the 1939-40 season but were resurrected in the early 1950s and have continued to be a strong and successful community based team in Perth, Ontario.

Perth Citizen’s Band Annual Christmas Concert

The Perth Citizens’ Band will be holding its Annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday December 19th, 2017 starting at 7:30PM. This year marks the 25th annual year of the event, which once again will be held at St. James Anglican Church, at the corner of Drummond and Harvey Street in Perth.  The long standing tradition of the Christmas Concert at the church was revived in 1993 by conductor Brian Tackaberry.

From the 1920s to 1940s the band had previously played concerts during the Christmas season.  Guests for this year’s event will be Perth’s Town Crier Brent McLaren, and The St. James Four.  The St. James’ Four hails from Perth and bring you familiar but fresh sounding jazz from an earlier era. It features Val Leavitt on piano, Peter Woodwark on stand-up bass, Rebecca Worden as vocalist and on clarinet and Jim Wright as drummer.

The Annual Christmas Concert will feature a variety of sacred and popular tunes for all ages.  Admission for the evening is $5 per person or $10 for families.
