Watershed Discovery Day

Bring your family – and all your questions on our water, our lakes and the programs underway to protect them – for an entertaining and informative morning for all ages.

Watershed Discovery Day provides interactive exhibits and activities on the state of our local water resources, the challenges facing them, and the programs and plans available to address them – and experts from the area agencies managing our water resources.

Have you ever wondered about:
How safe is our water?
Should I be testing my well?
Is bottled water better to drink than tap water?
Where is the best paddling and camping in the area?
What are invasive species, and should I worry?
What is the status of blue green algae?
Are zebra mussels and loosestrife still a problem?
Are major changes underway in our lake and stream water levels?
What is being done with the Haggart and the Bobs Lake dams?

For the Children:
This is a fun and informative morning featuring our educational ‘fish pond’, the Perth & District Library story corner at 11:00 a.m., the microscopic water critters display, and the book and game draw. Also, take the opportunity to renew your membership, and enter the draw for a Maximilians Restaurant gift certificate and one of our popular T-shirts.

The Regimental Band of the Governor General’s Foot Guards in Concert at St. Paul’s Perth

The Regimental Band of the Governor General’s Foot Guards will be returning for their fifth concert at St. Paul’s United Church in Perth on Labour Day Sunday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m

The band shares a close connection to the Governor General and provides music for many ceremonies in the Ottawa area, including the annual nationally televised Remembrance Day ceremony held at the National War Memorial. The band is immediately recognizable in their iconic scarlet tunics and bearskin hats.

The band will showcase its different small ensembles from the flute, clarinet, saxophone, and brass sections.  They will also perform “programmatic” music for the entire band: a musical fantasy depicting Godzilla’s attempt to take over Las Vegas, and other exciting tunes from the cinema.  The program will be rounded out with several gorgeous works written by Canadian composers.

Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be welcomed at the door with proceeds to St. Paul’s to cover advertising and promotion.

Celebrate Labour Day Sunday afternoon with the Regimental Band of the Governor General’s Foot Guards, in air-conditioned, accessible and acoustically-pleasing St. Paul’s United Church, 25 Gore Street West in Perth.
