Watershed Discovery Day provides interactive exhibits and activities on the state of our local water resources, the challenges facing them, and the programs and plans available to address them – and experts from the area agencies managing our water resources.

Have you ever wondered about:
How safe is our water?
Should I be testing my well?
Is bottled water better to drink than tap water?
Where is the best paddling and camping in the area?
What are invasive species, and should I worry?
What is the status of blue green algae?
Are zebra mussels and loosestrife still a problem?
Are major changes underway in our lake and stream water levels?
What is being done with the Haggart and the Bobs Lake dams?

For the Children:
This is a fun and informative morning featuring the popular Paddling Puppeteers, our educational ‘fish pond’, the Perth & District Library story corner, water critters display, and prizes for all.

Perth Kilt Run

WORLD RECORD PERTH KILT RUN

10TH ANNIVERSARY. SATURDAY AUGUST 17TH, 2019, 5 PM

It just wouldn’t be a Kilt Run if things remain the same as years past. Fun things come from change. So keep an eye on the Website, https://raceroster.com/events/2019/21844/10th-perth-kilt-run-2019 for what’s on for the day. This year we are joining up with Freedom Fest to help take a little stress off the Stewart Family who have been instrumental at keeping this run happening.

The idea to hold a kilt run in Perth, Ontario was conceived in October 2009 by Terry Stewart after the Mayor of Perth, Ontario submitted a letter to the Perth Courier requesting town residents to come up with an idea to help Perth, Scotland celebrate their 800th Anniversary. Happy Birthday Perth, Scotland!! Canada’s 8K Perth Kilt Run represents Scotland’s 800 years of existence

The kilt run was organized by a group of volunteers as a “one-time event”. Here we are, now celebrating our 10th anniversary. Mary and Terry are still leading over 100 volunteers to make this run happen.

The Perth Kilt Run continues to be a major attraction, drawing thousands of visitors to the town to race or cheer. To register, visit https://raceroster.com/events/2019/21844/10th-perth-kilt-run-2019

Order your kilt when you register and join in this authentic and ever popular kilted 5 mile / 8 km race that passes through the historic stone streetscapes of Perth and across the spectacular Tay River.

Highlights include a Pipe Band March to the castle starting gate, street bands, cheering stations and so much more!

Theatre Organ Concert

ACCLAIMED THEATRE ORGANIST PLAYS PERTH AUGUST 16

Lance Luce returns for the Inaugural Concert of:

Eastern Ontario’s newest Theatre Organ
A 40 rank, 3 manual digital instrument
In Perth’s Creative Community Hub
Now air conditioned and fully accessible
At St Paul’s United Church, 25 Gore St. W., Perth, ON. stpaulsperth.ca
Music to ‘tap the toes’ of all generations, with sounds and effects along musical roads less travelled, through…Broadway Hits…Jazz…Ballads…Blues…Rock…Marches…Silent Film and Sing-along. Truly something for everyone, to whet both nostalgic and contemporary tastes!

A native of Michigan, Lance Luce continues to enjoy an extraordinary career at the keyboards. At 19 he became the youngest Head Staff Organist at Radio City Music Hall on the largest Wurlitzer ever built. He has played concerts widely through the US, Canada, Britain and Australia.

For eight years he was the resident organist of Toronto’s Organ Grinder Restaurant, where he performed for over a million patrons. The American Theatre Organ Society named him organist of the year in 2014. Most recently he has become head organist for the Detroit Red Wings at the new, Little Caesar’s Arena.

Lance has been an organ consultant as well as designer of some 350 installations for churches, homes and institutions. He is practised in pipe organ maintenance, including voicing and interfacing with electronic organ design. So it is a pleasure to welcome Lance back to Perth, where he has played many concerts on our 40 rank pipe organ – including its 15 rank digital addition some 20 years ago, Oh, did we mention that he has also been a church organist for 43 years?

If you have yet to experience a performance or event at the totally refurbished meeting place at St Paul’s, welcome again to this uniquely intimate space, whether for 100 or 500 people. It is fast living up to the moniker, Creative Community Hub.

And its acoustics have become livelier than ever. At their virtuoso performance in May, brilliant international cellist, Eugene Friesen and pianist, Joel Martin repeatedly lauded its ambience and sound qualities. Over coffee afterwards and unsolicited, they simply confided: “this is a world class hall”.

Tickets (Adults $20, Students $10, Children under 12 Free) are available at Tickets Please:
