Buddy Holly & Rockabilly Riot Live

2016-06-28_205218

Chaffeys Locks on July 23rd and Westport Heritage day July 16th (11-2). Its time for some Rockabilly!

Buddy Holly Live! members Dave Bull (Buddy), Marty Crapper (Joe B.) and Stuart Pike (Jerry Allison) have graced stages in Ontario and New York from Collingwood to Sudbury to Cornwall and all points in between. Their brand of realism, vintage clothing and instruments, amplifiers, Texan drawl, stories and musicianship will leave you wanting more! Light-hearted and at times hilarious treatment of what it would have been like in the heyday of Buddy Holly and the Crickets (1958). Since 1999, the original members have perfected and now updated their highly successful theatre show to permit a “dance band” version of the band. This adds a whole new dimension to their show with the addition of other rockabilly greats like Carl Perkins, Bill Haley, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Stray Cats and the swinging Brian Setzer – Swinging Rockabilly and Buddy Holly! No matter what kind of music you like, a night out with Rockabilly Riot will be like no other… memorable and like travelling back in time for a couple of hours of great music and fun! Warning: spontaneous eruptions of laughter, singing and dancing are likely every show!

Saturday, July 23rd, 2016 from 8 to 11.45 pm

Singer, songwriter, guitarist, harmonicist and music educator Bill Johnson was born in Halifax, spent a few years in Ottawa and Calgary and now lives in Victoria B.C.. He grew up listening to his older brother’s record collection of Blues, Rock and Country artists and lists Hank Willilams, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Chuck Berry as his major influences. Bill spent most of his teens studying guitar and played in a variety of different bands through the ’70’s and ’80’s but by the early ’90’s he began to focus exclusively on the Blues. He’s released four albums since then including his new one – “Cold Outside”. Over the years Bill has won a Blewzy Award and been nominated for a Juno and 4 Maple Blues Awards. Delta Maple Syrup Festival 2016

12The Old Stone Mill NHS will be open for tours from 9 am to 3 pm during Delta’s Maple Syrup Festival. A used Book Sale will take place in the Old Town Hall on Saturday and Sunday, light refreshments will be available. Milling and blacksmithing demonstrations will take place on Saturday, starting at 1 pm. Many other activities taking place in Delta.

Established in 1967, the Delta Maple Syrup Festival was the first maple celebration to be established in the area. In planning for Canada’s Centennial, a small group of dedicated volunteers met regularly in the Council Chambers at the Old Town Hall. As President of the group, Harold Russell worked tirelessly as he contacted every farmer, arranged for sugar shack visits and tours, promoted sugaring off demonstrations and jack wax parties.

In the beginning, the Festival was a three day event held in March which included feeding pancakes and syrup to busloads of students on school trips. In order to keep up with the crowds, meals were served on both floors of the Old Town Hall.

Visitors were able to tour local sugar bushes along with watching maple syrup being bottled and maple candy being made in the Confederated Foods Syrup Plant building.

Over the years, the Festival continued through the efforts of many local residents and Service Clubs
before becoming a project for the Directors of the Delta Agricultural Society. And now, the tradition continues 49 years later!
