Lace Up 4 Marsha

ceThe Lace Up 4 Marsha Walk-a-thon is a fundraiser for Marsha Thake who requires a living donor liver transplant. Marsha grew up in Westport and her family and friends are asking for your help to raise money that will support Martha and her donor through the transplant process. Not all parts of the transplant process are covered by O.H.I.P. and Martha needs your help and support in this time of need.

Lace Up 4 Marsha is a walk/run/bike event for teams or individuals. It starts at the Westport Legion and heads into the Village via Hwy 42. The entire course is a 4 mile block around the Village of Westport. Afterward participants return to the Legion for a barbeque and entertainment. This is a family oriented event, so sign your family and friends up today.

The entrance fee is $15 per person. If teams and individuals choose to collect pledges they can. For those who raise $100 or more the entrance fee is waved. You can download all the forms from the Lace Up 4 Marsha website.

For more information visit Donor for Marsha at Facebook, while you’re there “like” us and “share” with your friends. For complete walkathon information visit laceup4 Marsha.com. So please be generous and come and walk/run/bike with us this coming August 9.

As of today Martha is still searching for a liver donor. For more information about the liver transplant process see the Canadian Liver Foundation website.

8th Annual Music Westport and Arts Market

Music Westport and Arts MarketThis year will be the 8th consecutive year of the Music Westport and Arts Market. There’s so much to see and do you need the weekend to take it all in. The weekend starts off at The Cove in Westport on Friday, August 15th, with the Music Westport Kick Off Party, featuring H’Sao from Montreal, an African Acapella/Dance Group.

On Saturday, August 16th, enjoy our local arts and music scene by taking in an outdoor concert or shopping in the arts market. In the morning watch our 3rd Annual Voice of The Rideau, The Cove’s local amateur vocal competition where you can cast your vote for this year’s winner.

This music festival features two outdoor stages: behind The Cove and beside Artemisia where you can listen to great Canadian bands play everything from rock’n roll to today’s contemporary country music. All the outdoor events are free, so tell your neighbours and bring your kids to spend the weekend with us in Westport.

Westport Heritage Festival

HeritageFest LR 2014Saturday June 14th marks the 8th edition of the Westport Heritage Festival, a family-friendly festival where you can spend the day relaxing in the village. Our 700 residents love opening the town up to visitors and their families. Come out and enjoy the festival, kids can roam through the petting zoo and have their faces painted, you can take home a freshly made rhubarb strawberry pie.

Each June the picturesque village of Westport celebrates its small town charm and heritage with an all-day street festival where dozens of vendors sell art, crafts, unique one-of-a-kind gifts and delicious homemade food, it provides a chance to showcase the village charms to new people coming from Ottawa and Kingston.

Thacker recently said, “The event celebrates our success as a village and as a community. Westport is not immune to the ups and downs of the economy and what have you, but we persevere and are rewarded with a vibrant, vigorous village. Each year we marvel at the number of people that return. It’s been said before; nobody’s a stranger very long in Westport”.
