The Wesport Centre for Creative Learning is pleased to inform you of a rare and aspirational event taking place at the WCCL, the renowned Afiara Quartet will be giving two performances at the former Stepping Stone Inn. This is an opportunity you will not want to miss. Please join us for an intimate private concert, gala reception and exquisite private dinner on the evening of Friday September 19 (with surprise guests), or join us for a more informal community performance of the Afiara Quartet the evening of Sunday September 21….or both as the performances will be quite different from one another.

The Afiara Quartet is a dynamic and award-winning ensemble, described as “a revelation” (La Presse) with performances balancing “intensity and commitment” and “frequent moments of tenderness” (Montreal Gazette). After residencies at The Juilliard School and San Francisco State University, the Afiara are currently Fellowship Quartet at the Royal Conservatory of Music. The ensemble is winner of the Young Canadian Musicians Award, Concert Artist Guild, Munich ARD, and Banff International String Quartet Competitions, including the latter’s Szekely Prize for the best interpretation of Beethoven. The Afiara has performed throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia, at such venues as Carnegie Hall’s Zankel and Weill Halls, the Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Library of Congress in DC, Sao Paulo’s Museum of Modern Art, Pro Musica of San Miguel de Allende, London’s Wigmore Hall, Austria’s Esterhazy Palace, Munich’s Prinz Regenten Theatre, Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw, and the Royal Library in Copenhagen. Their relentless pursuit of beauty and discovery is documented in over 25 commissions of new music, new educational outreach initiatives for school children funded by the Ontario Arts Council, and projects with jazz virtuoso Uri Caine, Latin Grammy Award-winning producer Javier Limon, and ground-breaking scratch DJ, Kid Koala. The Afiara String Quartet takes it’s name from the Spanish ‘fiar’ meaning ‘to trust’ a basic element of the depth and joy of it’s music making.  Truly a unique event well worth attending.

Next weekend, July 26th and 27th, 2014 we are hosting *Motus O Dance
Theatre*!
*Motus O* is nationally recognized dance troupe from Stouffville, Ontario.
They have traveled all across North America, Europe and Australia
performing various dance shows.

The founders of *MOTUS O Dance Theatre* believe that the art of dance can
and should inspire all sections of society thereby causing them to reflect,
examine and appreciate both the diversity of communities and the uniqueness
of individuals. The art of dance can help us perceive the world we live in.

On Saturday July 26th 10 am-4 pm, *Motus O’s *Artistic directors are
facilitating
the workshop,
*Body in Motion- With FUN!*

You are invited to this introductory workshop on movement, designed for
self-expression and storytelling. A variety of motifs will be learned and
explored investigating time, space, shapes and flow always working within
the realm of one’s natural abilities. Individual, partner and group work
will be explored, inspiring moments of community and creativity. All skill
levels welcomed.

On July 27th 2 pm- 3:30 pm *Motus O* will be presenting one
of their most renowned shows,* Circus Terrifico*!

Come and enjoy the hilarious,exciting show! *Circus Terrifico *is a comical
dance performance about three circus performers boarding the train to their
next show. A case of vanishing tickets, however, thwarts their plans and
strands them on the platform. It takes every trick in the book (and their
suitcases!) to create an impromptu show to raise money for new tickets.
This is a hilariously energetic micro-version interpretation of the
ballets, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. Bring the family! Light
refreshments will be included.

Tell Your Story Storytelling & Personal Narrative with Catherine McCormick
Storytelling is a popular art form at live storytelling events and on radio shows and podcasts worldwide. It can also be used as a tool to improve your public speaking, voice, and personal narrative writing. This full-day workshop will introduce participants to the basics of telling a tale and a variety of storytelling techniques. Each participant will leave the workshop with one polished 5 minute story, as well as a pocketful of ideas for future performances, personal essays or memoirs.

Improvised Comedy for Fun & Creativity

Improvised Comedy for Fun & Creativity with Danz Altvater
Improvisation is a valuable tool for performers of all stripes as well as a fun, low-pressure way to start performing. Improv helps develop acting and writing skills, and can also build up one’s confidence, creative flow and public speaking ability. This workshop is designed to introduce people at all skill levels to the art of improvisation. Participants will get hands-on instruction in improv comedy through various exercises, games and scenework. Participants will end the day with a 20 minute performance open to friends and family.
