“ART IN CHAMBERS” EXHIBITION FEATURING DIANE GILLETT BOSWELL

WINTER PARK, Fla., an internationally recognized ICMA Excellence Award winner with accredited fire, police, and parks & recreation agencies (November 13, 2012) The City of Winter Park Public Art Advisory Board is proud to announce the newest “Art in Chambers” exhibition Tree Dreams featuring photography by Diane Gillett Boswell. The collective effect of Winter Park’s iconic tree canopy inspires this body of work. The exhibition is open for public viewing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 S. Park Ave., and will remain on display through February 2013. The adjacent Chapman Room will feature Boswell’s exhibition Trees Reimagined; a glimpse from a larger body of work in development about Winter Park trees. There will be an artist reception Wednesday, November 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

About her exhibition Boswell writes, “As a child, tree climbing was a favorite pastime. It began at my grandparent’s home with a long, graceful oak tree branch that swept the ground just within my reach. From there, it became a search to identify trees best suited for reaching a perfect perch. The perspective from the treetops was always an intriguing way to watch the passersby come and go, and to see children and animals from this perspective. Now as an observer under the familiar canopy of Winter Park’s community of trees, the collective effect is like a continuous lacey layer of protection that provides shelter and works together as a haven of peaceful textures to buffer the daily life buzzing around their positions.”

Boswell studied art and architecture in Florence, Italy, and later received a degree in architecture and interior design from the University of Florida in Gainesville. In addition to her career as an architect, she is a photographer and cinematographer. Boswell has a recent installation at the new Amway Center in downtown Orlando, Fla.

“Art in Chambers,” a project of the Winter Park Public Art Advisory Board, showcases works by local artists or works borrowed from local museums. “Art in Chambers” enlivens Winter Park’s public rooms and exposes residents and visitors to art, highlights the importance the city places on art and culture, provides city support to local artists and studios, and creates opportunities to educate the populace on the value of art and its place in a meaningful life.
