Heart of Florida United Way to Host 22nd Annual Chef’s Gala

foodJoin the Florida United Way in attending the 22nd Annual Chef’s Gala on May 10. Event starts at 6:45-10pm. This event has been recognized as the region’s premier food and wine pairing event. The Heart of Florida United Way Chef’s Gala features exquisite cuisine from more than 20 of Central Florida’s top chefs, along with thoughtfully paired fine wines, live music and a silent auction.

Having raised more than $296,000 last year, Chef’s Gala is historically United Way’s largest fundraiser for education, income, health and basic needs program, which serve thousands of Central Floridians in dire need.

This race qualifies racers for world class marathons, such as the Boston Marathon.

All proceeds of this event will benefit HELP Now of Osceola Women’s & Children’s Shelter and scholarship opportunities for high school students. Tours will take place on December 7 and 8.

Tickets can also be purchased on the day of the tour for $20.00 in front of the Celebration Welcome Center at 690 Celebration Avenue (next to the Post Office).

Celebration Marathon and Half Marathon

Are you looking to do a marathon that can get you into shape, or possibly even qualify for the Boston Marathon next year? Maybe you just want to enjoy yourself at your own pace. If so, you will want to take part in the Celebration Marathon or Half Marathon this coming  January 26, 2014. There is still spots available,  the last date to enter the marathon is January 14th, so join today!

There will be prizes, race packets, and of course helping to raise scholarship funds for Osceola high school seniors.

The race course runs through some of the most scenic areas of Celebration FL. The course is ideally flat for first time runner, and as mentioned above, winners from this race qualify for the Boston marathon.

Come out and support a great cause and start a great healthy lifestyle by preparing now. Join a local running group already in training, or start your own, but make sure to get your race team’s name into Ken Zambito (tocmrd@gmail.com).

Stuff the Bus!

The Celebration community is gathering together to help Celebration High School students that don’t have school supplies for this year. Make a difference by helping out students that qualify to be considered a “Family in Transition” and help them rise above their current situation. Purchase school supplies and bring those donations to the Celebration K-8 School Open House on August 16th from 3 pm – 6 pm. You can also drop off your donations in Downtown Celebration on August 17th from 10 am – 2 pm. If you cannot attend either event, you may drop your donations off at the Celebration High School Open House on August 15th from 4 pm – 7 pm or during normal business hours at the Water Tower Place Chick-Fil-A, Celebration Town Hall, or the Celebration Foundation. The 2013 Summer Sidewalk Sale will be extra special.  Alongside the treasure hunt and special sales, this year’s special feature is the stars of the small screen. Participants from some of televisions reality programs such as Big Brother, Survivor, The Amazing Race and more, will be in  attendance and signing autographs.

The Sidewalk sale runs from Friday, August 2 to Sunday August 4. To participate in the treasure hunt pick up a copy of the map from Town Center restaurants to navigate around town and solve puzzles. The winner of the treasure hunt will receive $500 worth of cash and prizes. Autograph proceeds benefit the Give Kid’s the World Village.

 

August 3, from 3-6pm features the open autograph signing session, a $20 donation is appreciated, all donators will be given a commemorative booklet. Followed by a Luau party at 10pm in Town Tavern.

August 4 is the last day to hand in the treasure hunt maps and solved puzzles.

Osceola Connected Hosts Meal Packing Event

Osceola Connected, a coalition of organizations with an aim to help children in need in Osceola County, in collaboration with Feeding Children Everywhere is packaging 250,000 healthy meals to feed the hungry in Osceola County. Osceola Connected is hosting a Meal Packing Event on May 4 and 5, 2013 and is calling for volunteers and donors.

 

To get involved, here are the venues for the Meal Packing Event:
May 4 – St. Cloud Civic Center and Kissimmee Civic Center
May 5 – Celebration Town Hall and Florida Hospital Celebration Health

For donations, one meal is equal to $0.25. If you donate more, you can provide more meals for the children and families.
