We have all been touched by the crushing disaster that has struck Japan. In response, a group of local professional musicians are presenting a concert to raise funds for disaster relief and recovery operations.
The triple calamity that hit Japan on March 11 was its most devastating since World War II. The magnitude 9.0 earthquake, the tsunami it generated, and the radiation from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant are considered the most costly of all natural disasters to date. The country continues to be rocked by strong aftershocks, some of which have caused further fatalities. Tens of thousands of people have lost their homes and beloved family members, and the rebuilding of their lives is overwhelming.
The concert will take place on Friday May 6th, 2011 and features Barbara Bolte on oboe, Tony Stuart on clarinet, Richard Hoenich on bassoon. Joining these wind players will be pianists Brad Mills and Valerie Leavitt, no strangers to the musical scene in Perth. Also, several young vocalists will make their musical debuts. There will be something for every musical taste–from the Baroque to the Beatles.
Admission is by free-will donation, and proceeds will go to the Red Cross. Refreshments will be served so please come, meet the performers and support this community event. Friday May 6th at 7.30 at St. James Anglican Church, 12 Harvey St., Perth. For further information, please call 613-264-1131.
