On the last Saturday in September of every year, the Sister City Committee hosts the annual Black-tie Heritage Ball in Carleton Place! This year the event lands on September 27. The Sister City Heritage ball is considered the “Social Event of the Year”. The evening includes jaw dropping decorations keeping with the theme of the year, dinner, dancing and entertainment.

Tickets are $150 each and include a gourmet meal, dancing and entertainment, and proceeds go towards the Sister City High School Student Exchange Program.

The weekend of September 13-14 come to the Mississippi Mills Textile Mill for another year of Fibre Fest. Mississippi Valley Textile Museum’s highly anticipated annual event, Fibrefest, is returning to the Museum, the North Lanark Agricultural Hall (at the Fairgrounds), and the Almonte Old Town Hall.

These three locations will be featuring fibre art vendors, a fibre art exhibit, demonstrations and a full two-day festival of fibre arts!

Saturday, September 13 come out to Carleton Place for the Dragon Boat races. Not to be missed! This festival provides a close-up view of the dragon boats. The entire race is in full view from the banks of the Mississippi. Includes plenty of entertainment in Riverside Park over the lunch hour and face painting for the kids. Food and clean washrooms. Come to the Middleville Agricultural Fair on Saturday, September 13. The Middleville Agricultural Society was formed in 1851 to help farmers improve their farming practices. It ordered pure and reliable seeds in bulk for its members, and imported purebred rams to boost the quality of local sheep and wool. In 1883, the Society purchased the fairground property and built the large Exhibition Hall. In 1902, the Temperance Society added a meeting hall, now used as a dining hall.

Since 1851 in September the Middleville Agricultural Society have organized the Middleville Fair as a fall celebration of rural life.

Agriculture is the main focus of the Fair, with animal, flower, fruit and vegetable exhibits and competitions. Crafts, baking and preserving, and heritage displays of antique machinery and household items, as well as old fashioned games and races for the children, fill out the day.

The OACAO, Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat, Almonte Baptist Church, the Alzheimer Society of Lanark County, Mills Community Support, the Sweatergang Companions, and Fit Minds are hosting the 4th Annual Seniors Expo 2014 on Thursday, September 11th from 9:30am -3pm. The Seniors Expo is a showcase of services for 50+ persons and caregivers.

In 2013, we had 76 exhibitors and approximately 600 people who attended the Expo. This year we hope to have as many exhibitors as we had last year and as many people coming in to visit as in previous years.

Expo hours are from 9:30 am-3:00 pm and is held on the ground floor of the Almonte Community Centre, 182 Bridge Street.

This fall stop at one of Lanark County’s farmer’s market and buy local produce. The farmer’s market runs from Saturday, September 6 until Saturday, October 11. Different markets have different availabilities. Here’s a complete list of Lanark County’s farmer’s markets.
