Christmas at the Mill

Lower Beverley Lake ParkThe Old Stone Mill and the Old Town Hall will be open as part of Lower Beverley Lake Park’s “Celebrating the Season” which features in excess of 75,000 Christmas lights. The candles will be burning in the Old Stone Mill with guides tours at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The Old Town Hall will be open to provide some warmth. See the Celebrating the Season 2014 brochure for all the details about Celebrating the Season.

Come to the Old Stone Mill every Saturday this month until Saturday, December 20 and enjoy our seasonal activities. There will be caroling and of course lighted windows and Christmas decorations.

Westport Christmas Home Tour

ID-100222539Six Beautiful Westport homes will open their doors on December 4 between 10:00am and 3:00pm for your visiting enjoyment. Come and visit these lovely homes all decked out in their Christmas finery and displaying wonderful items available at many of Westport’s businesses. Enjoy light refreshments and meet these superb hostesses: Judith Allen, Debbie Bird, Angela Elster (Stepping Stone), Cathy Hay, Lori Thronton and the Knox Presbyterian Church.

Register at the Westport Town Hall from 9;30 to 10:30am. Tickets $15.00 through Paypal, Murphy’s and The Cove in Westport, and The Running Goat in Perth.

A Holiday Affair

A Holiday AffairIt’s that time of year again, come to the vendor and craft show at the North Crosby Community Centre in Westport November 30th, 9am-3pm. There will be a variety of local artisans and quality goods for sale as well as local vendors and commercial goods.

Whether you are starting your christmas shopping or just finishing, there is guaranteed to be fabulous treats fro the ones you love and those you’re thinking about.

Tea, coffee and goodies will be served by the girls PFC U15 Soccer Team. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the North Leeds Toy Drive.

Recreation Summit

ID-100109950November 20th is the RURAL RECREATION ASSOCIATION (RRA) of Lanark, Leeds – Grenville will be hosting their annual day-long Recreation Summit at the North Grenville Municipal Centre in Kemptville. Keynote speakers, displays, panel discussions, fabulous lunch and great networking opportunities all for just $25.00. If you are interested in outdoor recreation, volunteer with community groups, are a professional in the recreation or health care field, an educator or sport enthusiast then this day is for you. WWI Commemoration

ID-1007413On November 8-9, the Elgin and Area Heritage Society has prepared a World War 1 Commemoration event in honour of the men and women from North Leeds (Bastard and South Burgess, Newboro North Crosby, South Crosby, Westport). The EAHS has assembled a large amount of information and material relating to this division, which used the school yard of the Red Brick School as their training ground, of the 156th Leeds-Grenville Battalion. 

The event includes displays, a slide presentation, live music with guest speakers at 1PM on both days: Saturday, Nov 8 11am-4pm and Sunday Nov 9 1-4pm at the Red Brick School, Elgin. Of particular interest is the resonance of these names for the descendants of many of the individuals listed in the displays continue to reside in our area today. 

Celebrating the Season at Lower Beverly Park

ID-1001305Lower Beverly Park invites you to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season by walking through the park or enjoying a wagon ride around the park where the trees and buildings are lit up with over 75000 lights. Christmas carols will be playing throughout the park with various festive displays lit up for your pleasure.

Free wagon rides will be available throughout the park on half hour intervals between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Wagon rides will ONLY be available from the United Church.

People are encouraged to walk throughout the park to view the sites. Pedestrian parking is available from the Village Boat Launch which is located on the park entrance road.

Stop by Santa’s workshop (Cottage #1) for a visit and leave your letter for Santa. Please bring your own camera for a photo opportunity with Mr. & Mrs. Claus.

Hot Chocolate and Willard’s Donuts will be provided at Cottage #2.

Meals will be available each evening at the United Church starting at 4:00 p.m. Handicapped accessible parking will be available on Church Street.
