Hungry Planet Pop Ups | Town of Perth

2016-05-17_115634

It’s back! It went so well last year that we are doing it again. We are excited to announce, the Hungry Planet Pop Up, 2016 edition. If you missed it last year – this is about the return one of Perth’s all-time favourite restaurants – The Hungry Planet – over two Saturdays in June.

Many people have fond memories of the Border Farm burger and the Santorini sandwich among other delicious creations. Do you remember the brown paper menu on the walls, the busy open kitchen and the sense of community?

On Saturday June 4 and Saturday June 11, Judy will be cooking most of the Hungry Planet’s original menu. These special “pop-up” events are a fundraiser for The Table Community Food Centre’s community meals program which offers free, nutritious and delicious meals three times a week. In 2015 The Table served over 10,000 community meals to over 600 individuals.

The pop-ups will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On each day, orders must be made in advance and service will be take-out only. The menu will feature many of the Hungry Planet’s most popular dishes. Everything will be made fresh as you would expect from The Hungry Planet. Dishes on the eclectic, globally-inspired menu will highlight a variety of local ingredients. Weather-permitting an outdoor picnic area will be created so diners can enjoy their meals with other Hungry Planet fans and reminisce about the good old days. All main dishes will be priced at $25 and Judy plans to have a few of her famous desserts and salads on hand to compliment your meal. Place your order in advance by phone.

Orders can be placed starting the Monday prior to the event so orders for June 4 can be called in beginning Monday May 30 and orders for June 11 can be called in beginning Monday June 6 at 613-326-8593. PAYMENT BY CASH ONLY PLEASE

The Sounds of the Sixties Perth – Citizen’s Band Concert

29

On Sunday, April 17th, 2016, join the PERTH CITIZENS’ BAND for their spring concert, SOUNDS OF THE SIXTIES, taking place at the Perth Legion (26 Beckwtih St. East, Perth) starting at 2pm.

The music of the 1960s was a period of great change in musical styles as the sounds of the fifties rock gave way to the California sound of groups such as the Beach Boys, and music of the great “British Invasion” including the Beatles and many other influential bands. Traditional orchestral works such as Bert Kaempfert mixed with new sounds from Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.

30

The local wind quartet “Event Horizon” will be joining the Band to perform music from the Broadway Stage and movies including Music Man, My Fair Lady, and Gypsy. The band will also include music from familiar TV shows of the 60s such as Hawaii Five-O, and movie epics such as Doctor Zhivago and the Great Escape.

The concert will be held on Sunday April 17 starting at 2PM at the Perth Legion Hall, 26 Beckwith St. E., Perth.

Admission is $10 per person and $5 for students and includes light refreshments.
