Need room to grow? Please provide input on a new community allotment garden in Perth.
Transition Perth, The Table Community Food Centre, and Sow it Grows are exploring the possibility of establishing a new allotment community garden. An allotment garden would provide individuals, families or groups with their own plot to grow on. To assess community interest in this project we would appreciate if if you could fill out a brief online survey here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3C9TVFW

Paper copies of the survey are available at The Table, 190 Gore St. E.

This garden would be in addition to The Table’s existing community garden where people garden together and gardeners are welcome to take home what they need with the rest of the produce taken to The Table and used in the food bank, community meals and food skills programs. For more information about The Table’s garden visit their website: www.thetablcfc.org

Non-fiction Book Club

Monday, August 17, 2015 – 7:00pm to 9:00pm

wagesofrebellion_360Ladies and gentlemen, reach for your reading glasses, if you need them! The Transition Perth Non-fiction Book Club is now on. It will meet on the third Monday of every third month starting August 17th this summer. (And then November, February, May . …) We’ll discuss books with a more radical, and leftist perspective (not gardening books, for example). The next book will be selected by members at each meeting.

The first book on tap is The Wages of Rebellion, by Chris Hedges. There’s a copy at Perth Library, undoubtedly one in the Kingston system if you’re a member. There’s one on loan through a club-member’s Kindle, by request. For this particular book, because there’s a lot of related material from Chis Hedges, you may read / watch / listen to familiarize yourself with the ideas and come join in the discussion.

RSVP if you’d like to attend Monday, August 17th, 2015. (Andrew: 613.267.8308 or andrewcartermacdonald [at] gmail [dot] com) Details of the Perth location will be posted to you.

ONTARIO FAMILY FISHING WEEK

headerbgOntario Family Fishing Week

When: July 4, 2015 to July 12, 2015

During this week you can fish licence free on any lake or river in Ontario.
Info: 705-748-6324 or http://www.ontariofamilyfishing.com/

Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province-wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters without the otherwise mandatory fishing version outdoors card. The Ontario Government designates two periods throughout the year as license-free, February 14-16, 2015 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday) and July 4-12, 2015 (12:01 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday). During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.

There has never been a better time to introduce a friend to fishing!

Participants fishing without a license must fish under the Conservation fishing license limits which are set out in the current Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. With the exception of the licensing requirement, Ontario fishing regulations, fees and limits continue to apply during license-free days. Printed copies of the summary are available at licence issuers and ServiceOntario Centres.

Events such as festivals, clinics, derbies and workshops are hosted across the province. To find an event near you, visit the Events List & Map. Each event provides a great opportunity to get outside, spend some wholesome time with the family, and develop a strong connection with conservation through the enjoyment of fishing.

As anglers, we shape the future of fishing in Ontario! Always fish with care and concern for our precious natural resources.
