A Story of the Iroquois Confederacy

Who were the First Nations of our region and how did they play a pivotal role in shaping Canada, our history, and our cultural identity?

Discover the, “Wilderness Empire: A Story of the Iroquois Confederacy,” as author and historian Michael Hart presents on the the Haudenosaunee and their central place in the story of our nation.

This is a story of the rise and fall of the wilderness empire of the Iroquois Confederacy. This is a story of powerful Indigenous confederacies and alliances, and the struggles for territory and dominance between Indigenous coalitions and the empirical powers of the Netherlands, France, and Britain in eastern North America. Central to this story are the five tribes of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca. Centuries before Europeans found their way to eastern North America, the five tribes accepted the message of the Great Binding Law brought by the Peacemaker, declared an armistice among themselves, and became known as the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

This is a story of how the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, later known as the Iroquois Confederacy, won a wilderness empire through military power and political prowess. This is also the story of how, confronted by overwhelming pressure from European encroachment, the Iroquois fell from princes of wilderness empire to refugees in their ancestral lands.

This is a story of intelligent military strategy and bold diplomacy of Indigenous leaders that altered the history of European empires and shaped the cultural and political landscape of present-day eastern North America.

Perri Van Rossem’s Pelvic Floor Workshop with Amara Vidya

Join Certified Yoga Therapist Perri van Rossem to learn why the pelvic floor is one of the most important muscle groups in the human body. Discover how it is that it supports the base structure of the spine, our urinary and defecator functions, and it how plays an integral role in our overall energy levels. You will learn through understanding, refining your perception, and engaging with your pelvic floor how you can both strengthen and relax these vital tissues as needed.

In this workshop Perri will introduce you to the pelvic floor from an anatomical perspective. Starring Amberley Beatty with The Sweet Dreams Band. Presented by Paquette Productions. When Amberley Beatty steps on stage, the very spirit, the very soul of one of the greatest singers in the history of Pop and Country music comes to life as the legendary Patsy Cline. When asked how she was influenced, Amberley explains, “When I was a little girl the best time of my life was sitting at the breakfast table with my Grandpa listening to the oldies country station on the radio. Happy Labour day!

Labour Day (Labor Day in the United States) is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. For most countries, Labour Day is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers’ Day, which occurs on 1 May.
In Canada and the United States, Labour Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September and considered the unofficial end of summer, with summer vacations ending and students returning to school around then.

The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal for the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations”, followed by a festival for the workers and their friends and families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the civil significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the Labor movement.

Labor Day is called the “unofficial end of summer” because it marks the end of the cultural summer season. Many take their two-week vacations during the two weeks ending Labor Day weekend. Many fall activities, such as school and sports begin about this time.

Willa Mamet and Paul Miller have exactly what it takes to get the job done, and the pleasure is in the delivery – at their best, Willa Mamet and Paul Miller invite you into that Vermont kitchen when they first found musical magic so many years ago. Come listen to some fine music masterfully played and sung.” -Robert Resnik, Vermont Public Radio

Carolyn Fe at Gananoque’s Royal Theatre

The last time Carolyn Fe Blues Collective, played the newly renovated historic The Royal Theatre, Thousand Islands was in an acoustic trio format. This time around get the FULL BAND experience! Songs from their award winning 3 albums, PLUS a sneak peak…errr, a sneak listen to a few more songs from their upcoming album! From the crowd’s reactions the last time, you best get your tickets early because this time around, they’ll sell out fast!

Some history about the theatre: Built in 1930 by the Delaney family as a Vaudeville House, this all poured-concrete structure was one of the first “fire-proof” buildings ever conceived in North America. The Great Depression slowed the family’s progress with their new theatre venture, however, and it was not until 1937 that the doors were opened to patrons.

The venue hosted live acts and popular movies until 1960, when it was converted to a bowling alley. Proprietor and Founding Artistic Director Kevin John Saylor purchased the imposing old building in 2013. The spirit of community he discovered in Gananoque was immediately inviting, and the fact that the town was already a theatre destination (home of the Thousand Islands Playhouse) and very famous as the “Gateway to the Thousand Islands”, made relocating an easy decision.

Elvis & Buddy Holly Tribute

Gary Wesley has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, Chile, and South America. He has performed with Las Vegas Productions such as Legends in Concert, American Super Stars, Legends Alive and many others. 2016 is Garry’s 28th year performing at Alfred’s on Beale Street. He has performed with the Legendary Jordanaires, The Blackwood Brothers Quartet, The Sweet Inspirations, Millie Kirkham, DJ Fontana and Joe Esposito. Gary not only bears a striking resemblance to Elvis but he has perfected those famous gyrating moves and has an impeccable voice.

Jeff Scott entered the Tribute industry literally overnight. It began with a phone call on a cold February afternoon. By the end of the conversation, Jeff was heading to Las Vegas to join the successful Kokomo Beach Band, (a Beach Boys tribute band), where his love for 60’s pop would fit like a glove. Touring the US and Canada, the highlight of the trip would be a series of shows on the Vegas Strip, including The Sands, Aladdin, and Circus Circus.
