2015 Kingston Prize

2015 Kingston Prize2015 Kingston Prize

from Friday, October 9, 2015 – 12:00pm to Sunday, October 25, 2015 – 8:00pm

GANANOQUE EXHIBITION FIREHALL THEATRE

The Kingston Prize is a Canada-wide competition and exhibition tour for Canadian portrait painting. The competition is open to any Canadian artist who depicts a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant in a portrait based on a real life encounter. The aim of The Kingston Prize is to encourage and reward the creation of contemporary portraits by Canadian artists, to promote Canadian artists through competition, and over time to develop an historical record of Canadians, by Canadians.

Each exhibition becomes a fascinating snapshot of a cross-section of Canadian life. A distinguished panel of judges determines the 30 finalists, whose work then becomes part of the national touring exhibition. The exhibition gives much needed public exposure to talented Canadian artists, while at the same time sparking interest, conversation and inspiration in the visitors attending the exhibitions.

The Kingston Prize provides an opportunity for Canadians to celebrate gifted artists in a way that was not previously available. The interest from artists and the public has grown exponentially since the inception of the Kingston Prize in 2005.

Springer Theatre presents: “DEAR JOHNNY DEERE”

DEAR JOHNNY DEEREDEAR JOHNNY DEERE
“I’m wilder than her, what else can I say…”

Often called the Bruce Springsteen of rural Ontario, Juno Award-winning Fred Eaglesmith’s fun and evocative country songs have been masterfully woven into this foot-stompin’ musical.

Johnny’s got a wife and a farm. But will he for long? This foot-stompin’ musical is set to the fun and evocative songs of Canadian country legend Fred Eaglesmith.
Lately, not much has been growing on Johnny’s farm – or in his wife’s heart. So when a man from the city comes knocking and says they’re going to put a big ol’ highway through Johnny’s land, he has some tough choices to make.

Book by Ken Cameron
Based on the music and lyrics of Fred Eaglesmith
Additional music and arrangements by David Archibald

Blind Date (Firehall Theatre from July 1 – 26)

BlindDate-web

“I was thinking, I don’t know…maybe one of you would be my blind date?”

Live theatre doesn’t get any livelier than this!

Mimi has been stood up by her blind date, but why let the night fall to ruin when there are so many handsome audience members?! Each night, she invites a willing gentleman for a spontaneous rendezvous on stage. The result is witty, sexy and different every time!

BLIND DATE is a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants fusion of clown, improvisation, and theatrical experiment that you’ll want to see again and again. After sold out runs in London and New York, we are delighted that Mimi is coming to the Firehall Stage. You will be too!

“Irresistible, cheeky and charming.”
