About the Perth Fair

The Perth and District Agricultural Society was founded in 1845. Many things have changed over the years, including the name and location of the society. One thing that has remained is the dedicated volunteer base which has supported the organization over the years.

Did you know? – The Perth and District Agricultural Society is a non-profit organization that hosts the Perth Fair on Labour Day weekend in Perth, ON. The organization is made up of hundreds of volunteers who come together to present a balance between agricultural and entertainment events.

We continue to build upon tradition while embracing the future and look to bring the best possible Fair to the Perth Fairgrounds. Have you considered volunteering? Become a member of a strong volunteer based organization. Please contact us at volunteer@perthfair.com .

Organizing Committee

The Terry Fox Foundation is responsible for supporting close to $20 million in discovery based research each year in Canada – all monies raised outside Canada must be distributed to (a) an institute approved by the Foundation and its advisors or (b) remitted to Canada. The Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI) is a recipient of TFF funding for translational research. TFRI is an exciting new initiative whose goal is to translate rapidly today’s best science into better cancer treatment and diagnosis for all Canadians. The Institute will bring scientists and clinicians together across the country into a functionally integrated, geographically dispersed Institute with nodes in several provinces.

The Foundation recognizes the duality of its mandate. Not only does it raise money for research, but it also continues to share the story of Terry Fox. The Terry Fox Foundation strives to maintain the heroic effort and integrity that Terry embodied.

It is a grassroots organization that does not allow the Terry Fox name or likeness to be commercialized or conjoined with other worthy causes.

To date, over $650 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name.

FIELDWORKS PRESENTS…WORDS ON THE LAND. READING. AUG. 21-23, 2015

words on the landAugust 21, 2015 3:00 pm to August 23, 2015 5:30 pm

We are excited about a new initiative we have undertaken this year. Framework: Words on the Land will be a weekend (August 21-23) of writing-in-situ for 10 invited (confirmed) writers of all genres. Their weekend will culminate with a public reading of their ‘Words’ on Sunday afternoon 3-5:30 pm. We are very pleased to be working in partnership with the Ottawa International Writers Festival/Perth Chapter on this event.

See attached file for more information about both Fieldwork and Framework.

Fieldwork is open all year, free of charge and is a self-directed walk in the woods/field to view art. The Framework reading will be a ticketed event

A bit about Fieldwork

Fieldwork is an art space located in Eastern Ontario between Kingston and Ottawa. It is a small open field and an adjoining forest hosting a diverse collection of site-responsive art installations year round. It is open to the public 7 days a week, 12 months a year and is free of charge. It was brought to life by the members of the Fieldwork Collective who saw the potential and the value of luring artists to a field to make art, and also in the value of connecting people with art and nature. It has been supported by the OAC since inception (2008). For more about Fieldwork visit our website –http://www.fieldworkproject.com/ and our Facebook page.

A new kind of cultivation is happening in and around a field near Perth, ON – one that clearly puts the culture in agriculture as it were. In addition to its annual exhibitions of site-responsive art installations, Fieldwork is breaking new ground in 2015 with a project that plants writers in the rural landscape for a weekend of land-inspired writing, and which in turn invites you to come and hear their words.

Picture ten writers at ten portals in and around a field – each one framing a different perspective of the land – and you have Framework. Part workshop, part retreat and part performance, this weekend is unexplored territory for everyone involved and promises to illuminate both the creative processes unique to each writer and the numerous responses elicited from being, seeing and writing in nature.

After two days of writing on site, we will open the loft of our lovely old Lanark County barn to the public for you to join us in conversation with the writers as they reflect on their weekend and read selections of their words summoned from the land.

Fieldwork is pleased to be presenting this event in partnership with the OIWF.

ABOUT FIELDWORK

Initiated in 2008, Fieldwork is a 20-acre outdoor, creative space that aims to cultivate connections between people, imagination and nature. It is located on a farm in eastern Ontario just west of Perth.  A small field and an adjoining forest host a diverse collection of site-responsive art installations that the public can explore year round, for free. We also periodically host workshops that bring people (kids especially) to nature for creative explorations. The project is voluntarily managed by the Fieldwork Collective and has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council since the project’s inception.

For more about Fieldwork visit our website – www.fieldworkproject.com  and our Facebook page.
